Postby AndrzejB on 03 Apr 2010, 15:28

Hi. I have lately problem with calibrating my vinyl player with mixvibes. Everytime i do it i got "level difference. check the cables" comunicate. There is a difference - R tunnel is much too loud, with left to quiet. Still, i change the cables but it didn't help. HELP!

Wich soundcard do you use ?
If it's U46MKII try to look at the control panel of the U46.

Make sure your needle carts are in properly, giggle them and swap them from table to table to see if that is the problem also. ;)

i'm using u-mix44.
i'm afraid problem is in my needle. i changed it to an older one, and everything works allmost perfect (there still are some unwanted reverb). but what can be wrong with a needle? it's brand new, not used jet very much.

Did you change JUST the stylus(needle), or the WHOLE plug in cartridge 'head'? if the whole head, then there could be something up with the contact pins where the 'arm' connects to the the head. Try blowing in there, use a cotton bud with some 'methylated spirits' to clean the contact points. ;)
Or you could have a defective needle...

If it's a new stylus, especially a elliptical stylus, it might not be tracking properly. You might need to fiddle with anti-skate if that's the case. However, I'd recommend against such stylii for timecode vinyl - use spherical.

If it's definitely the stylii, and one side is audible, but a LOT quieter, check for dirt (could be minuscule). If you replaced the whole cart though and it worked, it could be perhaps a problem with the internals of the cart itself. Did you replace just the needle or the whole cartridge?

i replaced whole cartridge. Also when i listened to normal vinyl, music with older was more quiet, but more dynamic and softer than with this valid one. But there are still some problems with calibrating the gramophone, even with this older needle - i mean when i use Multichannel DirectX interface everything works, but when i use ASIO it can't calibrate. It all happens when using the same needle (older one). When using the valid one, both (Mulitchannel and Asio) cannot calibrate (level difference message).

Using DVS systems often shows problems on turntables that you would not normally notice when playing normal vinyl. :(
The timecode read has to be accurate for the software to manipulate the 'tracks' (mp3,wav ect...).
when i use Multichannel DirectX interface everything works, but when i use ASIO it can't calibrate. It all happens when using the same needle (older one). When using the valid one, both (Mulitchannel and Asio) cannot calibrate (level difference message).

Could you please post a config report (preferences > config report). make sure both needles are on the record, its turning, and that your pitch is at 0. Might give us more information to help you out ;)

So i changed the needle (i'm working with m44-7 shure) but it STILL can't calibrate properly. Vinyl is going forward, pitch is O, line connection. It can't calibrate - when screching it starts going backwards while there is no reverse function on. Pitch changing on my gramophone doesn't work, or it simply disconnects - can't control song by vinyl. I'm getting really tired of this. Is my mixvibes valid?
