Although phaded already answered I have some stuff for you:

The BPM calculation in Cross is very good, but not perfect i.e. if you take a track you produced on your own at 125BPM, load it into Cross and analyse it Cross says BPM is at 125.2. So there is a difference in handling two tracks with the same speed. If both are 125BPM but Cross analysed the first one with 125.2 and the second one with 124.9 and you try to auto match or sync this one through the software you will not get satisfied. I recommend to pitch on your own, that is more precise.

In your preferences of Cross there is a "audio cache (% RAM)" field. Set this one to zero and try loading tracks. This solved my drop outs when I configured Cross. Also here is a tutorial for setting up your computer for audio applications:

I have tested both and I can tell you that vista is that bad...Win7 is the best OS imho. As fast as WinXP and up to date!
