Extend library features like Beatport pro

Hi,

I was wondering if MV was planning in a near future to extend its library features like Beatport Pro did with their new software http://pro.beatport.com/ ? (best features are Enhanced Metadata and Unlimited Tagging and Advanced Filtering and Filter Presets)

Allowing to tag freely its music library to make better (smart) playlists is really a must have for DJs. Don't you guys think?

Could you tell what you're missing. Given all the options in Cross it will be kind of hard to figure out what it could be in an other program that you feel is better.

Essentially I'd like to add custom tags to my mp3 (or read custom tags added from another software) > examples: mood, energy rating, venue, vocals, set time, ...

While mixing, tick tags easily to filter my library accordingly AND/OR have Cross suggests songs based on the currently playing song's custom tags.

I just read this morning that Virtual DJ now has its add-on to do that: http://www.djtechtools.com/2014/05/31/m ... irtual-dj/

Other good inspiration for song tag matching is http://www.beatunes.com/ which allows you to customize the matching algorythm (ex: bpm between 120 and 130 + mood around sadness + harmonic key > and you can set a flexible scale to enlarge selection)

Hello,

Any feedback from Mixvibes ?

I'd like to know if I'd better wait a little for Cross to offer these kind of features or if I better look for an alternative for comprehensively tagging & filtering my music library..? (reminder: I'd like to be able to add more customized tagging dimensions, like Beatport pro does).

My underlying question is: "does MixVibes consider music library management and customization as a fundamental role of a DJ software? Or should it be the role of a mediaplayer?"

Thank you very much

Not sure if you noticed some of the features of Cross.

- Cross indicates matching key for loaded deck in the collection for every track
- you can use smartlists for easy filtering even on the fly.
-Several fields for personalised tags in collection. Like comments. Group. Genre.
- search function works for fields that are selected in magnifying glass.

My believe is that the functions you want for energy are not to reliable. At least for a DJ. Most important is to know your tracks.

I've learned that some use the 'rating' field as a mood or energy indicator. That tag also transfers easily between applications.

I certainly know all of these functionnalties. I already use them: rating, comment, group, genre,...

But the main problem is that it remains limited and thus it forces you to "hack" them. A proper tag field would allow you to add multiple values which then would be searchable, filtrable, etc.

In my opinion, DJing is a lot more than mixing genre, key or bpm. I know my tracks quite well but I'd like to be able to find the perfect next song in an instant. I think we need more tags dimensions to build better (smart) playlists.

Are there any other multigenre DJs around who understand the needs I'm trying to express ?

LOois,

Mention the BeatPort Pro features specifically you want implemented, because, No I don't know what you mean.

I admit to never using Beatport Pro, but I can't think of a scenario where Cross's existing functionality is inadequate. Sure, it's not perfect, but it is rather robust. Chapter 8.3 in the manual covers browser function and is full of little known gems to help you search for and filter tracks.

I don't think the link to the manual is working. Do you have a link?
