Wow, you guys are doing fantastic work.

I'm dropping Traktor and coming back to CrossDJ.

Please add the Preference Option:

Display 8 Pads in Samplers (where possible)

The design of the "larger" Sampler Pads is excellent and makes it easy to access/see Pad Rolling Freq, Play Mode, Volume Mute (plus the aesthetics of the larger pads and waves looks great).

Currently the "larger" 8 pad View can only be with One Deck (C or D).

If both C and D are set for Sampler Pads, they only show 4 pads (no matter the Preference Settings).


Phase B

Did you guys know that IF you allows 8 "large" Pads for Both Decks and later make "drag and drop" between Sampler Decks possible, that basically you'd be creating CrossDJ Studio or CrossDJ Create?

This would allow users to "cut" segments of loops, songs, ambience, one shots, whatver (from the main players or browse collection), and "drag and drop" between Sampler Decks and Pads to easily create their own Sample Banks and music.

This allows users to have saved Sampler Banks named: Drums, Perc, Bass, Keys, Ambience, etc., and easily "drag and drop" to make their own soundscapes and songs.

Basically it would be like an Adobe product in feel where everything can be dragged and dropped.

The people who use Traktor (and that whole market) will still be there using Traktor, but MixVibes can clearly differentiate from NI's ("sexy" sell more stuff) offerings.

I own the F1 for Remix Decks and I can get into the whole explanation that it is largely (for the most part) a "fail".

The F1 looks and feels cool, but it could take hours making music "that works" with the F1 and Remix Decks. Try it and see how far you get with F1 and Remix Decks. It's actually very limiting. (Might as well use Ableton). Sometimes Quantization is a bad thing in music.

MixVibes CrossDJ will allow 2 regular Players on top and 2 full sized 8 pad sampler decks where people can grab, capture, combine, move things around (across decks) and play with/over the main 2 decks players.

Anyway, if you guys did this, MixVibes and Cross will get due respect and differentiate from all the NI bloat. NI are great marketers and make $ like crazy.

The future is wide open and I think CrossDJ is becoming more and more of a music Creation Tool.

I don't get why you want big pads on both sides when C & D are samplers. These big pads only exist to fit the Player's height that can be on the other side. But all the features are available in normal pads.
Moreover, 2 players + 2 big pad samplers, or 4 players take so much space that only a few lines of collection can be displayed, except if you have an ultra large screen (your case?) !

I definitely (now) see that the original "requirement" for the Large Pads (vertical size) was for it to "fit" with the adjacent Deck when it's in Player mode.

You are correct that I was looking at the Large Pads (8 pads for Sampler C and 8 pads for Sampler D) from a "Sample Bank" Pre-Production / Creation Tool (allowing drag and drop of samples between the Sample Decks) versus the main design / functionality of the Sampler Pads/Decks to be used to "support" Live DJing with the Regular Players.

But here are my points to consider (when you guys have time to "kick back"):

- Since F12 toggles Collection View Expanded (Full Page Browse), who cares about how much room (available rows for browsing tracks) is left when viewing "8 large pads" and #2: there is no difference in the number of available rows to browse if Deck C and Deck D are Both in Large Pad Sampler View or only One of the the Decks (C or D) is Sampler Mode with the adjacent deck in in Player mode -- it's still the same number of available rows to browse.

- You are correct here that: I was using a big screen to do my pre-production (create Sampler Decks) mode, but CrossDJ is not only used for DJing now, it is also used for "pre-production" / "pre-gig" / prep and users can use their Desktop PCs or an External Monitor (from their Laptop) to spend hours prepping for gigs and being creative with sample capturing for sample decks.

No need to assume that working in CrossDJ is always in the "active DJ (venue) mode" -- even though the product, of course, does need to be optimized for the Live / Active Djing mode (since this was / is initially what CrossDJ was all about).

I'm just letting you guys know, that CrossDj is now at the "cusp" of being more than a DJ Player app. It's very close to being a cool, simple to use Music Creation Tool.

More thoughts and another angle:

There are actually 3 different Pad Sizes:

- Large Pads that visually shows Play Mode, Rolling Freq, Mute (with nice large waves). This was needed to match the vertical size of the adjacent deck being in Player mode.

- Medium Pads: these show only when Both Decks C and D are in Sampler mode and Preference is set to: show 4 pads only. Medium sized pads visually shows Play Mode, Rolling Freq, Mute (with still good sized waves).

- Small (original sized) Pads: these show only when Both Decks C and D are in Sampler mode and Preference is Not set to: show 4 pads only. These (orig) "Small" pads Do Not visually show Rolling Freq (and the wave sizes are "tiny", more like "icons" of the sounds). For all the fantastic information (music) that these Sample Slots should contain, why have everything so "tiny" (for 8 slots per deck). Also the Volume Faders in Small Pads are very tiny.

My suggestion, is to look forward (future) at the potential of the Sample Slots being the Main Differential of allowing CrossDJ to be a (pre-production) music Creation Tool. Remix Decks in Traktor are very frustrating IMHO. Try it some time. Yes, they have some artists with Remix Decks samples ready made. Try those also. The music in Traktor Remix decks lacks life IMHO. Very robotic. Too much Quantization (and difficult to control individual sample cells for anything that isn't prefectly in sync). It's very, very limited musically (IMHO).

CrossDJ with the option to have 8 Medium or Large Pads per Sampler Deck allows a whole new paradigm.

When / if you guys have time to relax (like after a break or vacation), step back and see if you see what I am talking about. Or, I'll fly out to France and show you.

Think Adobe Premier. Every object can be "dragged and dropped" to another area.

I know you guys are very busy with all the Pioneer and iPad/iPhone stuff. Lot's going on there that are bigger priorities.

But at some point, from a competitive and differential point of view, CrossDJ is pretty close (conceptually) of being a DJ Pre-Production studio. (Without having to "break" what has already been done / coded so far).

Think about what 2 Sampler Decks of 8 each can do if users could easily "drag and drop" Cells (sampler slots) from one sampler deck to the next.

There is a lot of talk in the DJ / Production world that "moods" are important. DJing evolved from "songs". But now, prepping for DJing and "production" is becoming a "blur". Djs can entertain for hours with evolving grooves, ambient (non-beat) "tops" / intros, transitions (and of course loops, one-shots) and seque into actual "regular" songs.

CrossDJ is currently easy to capture bits and pieces of existing songs, as well as combine with samples. But it is still tedious to do everything in One sample Deck at a time. It should be easy to Copy / Paste / Cut / Move / Duplicate to other sample cells in either Deck. (As well as ultimately some level of UnDo).

"Seamless drag and drop" between decks will really speed up the workflow of what can be done. And lastly, the Medium and Large Sample Pads look awesome -- "a samplers triggers" dream. Gosh, let people pick some colors so they can mark: Drums, Bass, Keys, etc. It will look fantastic. Dim (darker) Color for when sample is Not Active. Regular Color for Active.

OK, I rambled a lot here, but I see the vision and I am excited. Traktor is BloatWare and I keep feeling everyone (on Traktor) will soon sound the "same" with the Traktor / NI approach.

If they (NI) figure out how to get Maschine to link with Traktor and allow some VSTs, that will keep NI (and their market) busy for the next few years.

CrossDJ is so light and efficient for what it does and it's very reliable. If Sample banks were "enhanced" and move towards the front of CrossDJ being a Creation Tool / Studio, I think word will get out.

Google's motto was: Don't be Evil. Google always tries to give the end users value and not blatently "take peoples money". NI has done a lot of great things, but they rarely, barely ever take a product to it's "natural" conclusion. They tend to dump products once they have extracted every possible penny out of users with never ending promises and new versions. Then they create something completely different and no longer support (or finish) the orig product lines.

MixVibes (company / staff) has integrity. You can see it in everything they do. It's a passion. MV never gouges users for $. If anything: MV under charges. MV has a deep passion for music.

You guys deserve to have a Winner. CrossDJ deserves to be a Winner. Serato is basically married to vinyl and cd players (and expensive, needing to purchase their approved hardware). Traktor is now tied to the purchase of NI Hardware (which is an interesting direction). MV is "keeping it pure" and deserves to pick a direction that is in tune with Artist Creation. (Eventually it will pull big names of a new/next generation). (Everyone can afford CrossDJ).

I will let you crawl the forum to see how many people was asking to reduce again and again to make it fit into a 768 pixels screen height, yes, people want to DJ with 10 or 11 inches display and have everything clickable with the mouse/pad even if they have a MIDI controler.

By the way, I had a bit misundertsood your first post, this is clearer now.
I can't answer each point specifically, and can't promise any of your ideas will be followed, but I like them and will keep all of them for the next discussions concerning the upcoming updates.

part of the solution might be to be able to implement mulitiuable screen displays with movable gui feature , as in DVS 7 ,, (home 7),, no shure how that would affect the software stability and vid plug in usage,,

2.4 definitately has enough current functionality for creation, having fun and entertaining.

-- just wanted to interject a perspective/vision that there is potentially (future) "magic" (and control options / opprtunities) in those (larger) pads.

one gui won't satisfy all, of course. (Menu) View of click (select) on /off Components would resolve. This idea of the "Expanded Sample Pad functionality" would not be for the 10 and 11-inch (mass market) screen people. (it's more of a Pro Design / Studio version).

Drag and Drop of Sample Cells, probably would be: "Control + Mouse drag" (to safeguard against accidental moving of Sample Cells).

at some point, i'll need to describe the Workflow. Hint: non-beat ambient textures over (sample cell) beats, possibly even with a Choke Group (1, 2, 3, 4) that, when triggered, stops all the other Sample Cells in that Choke Group. Let someone "build the song" by playing in the Sample Decks (not even necessarily need the regular deck Player).

Also multiple Sample Cells with beats can "easily" be combined to create a new Cell. (Shift-Control-double-click).

Allow a "built up" (song / segment creation) of cells in a Sample Deck to be "translated" into a regular Player deck "song" (wave) with each Hot Cue Point already assigned/marked as they were (originally) in the Sample decks ("auto song / segment create").

One cool thing about Choke Groups would allow the same Drum Sample to have Rolling Frequency of say: 2, 1, 1/2, etc. (3 different sample cells) -- thus clicking on pads (or with a MIDI pad controller) can build the energy with quicker and quicker rolling freq (each pad being a different roll freq) versus having to play with a Cell's roll freq setting with a mouse or knob. In music, all those "speeding up of roll freq" really make a difference on the music set's energy and dynamics (crowd).


Then the "result" of "jamming" with the Sample Pads goes into a Recordable Wave that can be "dragged and dropped" back into a Player Deck or back into a Sample Deck.
