Re: Autoplay Feature

I have the Autoplay enabled most of times. As the autoplay has beat synced transition this makes life easy (for my type of djing).
Though this doesn't mean I just throw in a bunch of tracks to be autoplayed. The list is a prep list which I maintain actively, depending on the dynamics of the public.
(next track is started at Cue when [End of track -/- autofade duration])

A major loss in the recent past was the 'autofade duration' which became 'hidden' in preferences. But with some MIDI 'tricks' I made it easy to change, though always unsecure about the real time set... Hope this will be back in the next version...

Most (close to all) of the DJ controls can easily be used while in Autoplay mode. So I always have a next track and always a smooth transition.. For me a pretty safe way of working.

Adding transition types might circumstancial be useful, but definitely not in all situations. (some transitions may be great in an active dancing crowd, but terrible when using same succeeding tracks as background)

Also when at work I use the Autoplay to play my music and more important to add new tracks and set the information right (check BPM, set genre, rating etc.). Just looping through the list till all is done..

So I can only assume that the Autoplay feature stays the way it is, preferably with the autofade duration back in. For sure I wouldn't like the feature to be further stripped or changed into a dumb playlist player type of thing.

Agreed, no need to take out useful features or parts of it.

My point was/is that enhancing it beyond it's current state (perhaps with the exception of putting something back that was in there before but got taken out for a - wrong? - reason) will take time away from enhancing other more core features and or developing new things to help Cross stand apart from the rest of the usual suspects.

We are not asking for "New Features" in Autoplay - this thread (which was started THREE years ago!) is basically asking for Autoplay to not immediately transition to the next song when it is engaged. Do you think all competing DJ software is not like that for the heck of it?

We are already in the future - the computer is supposed to work for the DJ, not vice versa. The problem with most DJ software is that the software engineers who are smart enough to develop it, don't DJ - and the people who understand what DJ's need, i.e. working DJ's, don't have the knowledge to develop it. A real Catch 22, and the way Autoplay was implemented in Mixvibes is a good example of that. It is especially frustrating because everything else about Mixvibes is so good!

If I'm wrong about that, and a working DJ did develop it, I'm all ears for why Autoplay is that way. :frown:

MixVibes was founded by and for DJ's who wanted to simplify life...

So DJ knowledge is present, and not just by management.

Simplify might be the keyword here. Though there are technical(programmable) ways to add this feature it would create a complication. Not to hard, but still.. there will have to be an extra selection/button (or such) that makes this feature start the right way, meanwhile also avoiding starting the wrong way (in case you do want to change to the autoplay track instantly).

It may sound silly, but this feature has to work under pressure... else you could wait till the end of a track and smoothly kick in the autoplay...

Nevertheless I definitely support this request.. even for more than the 3 years you mention..

Just like I'd like the 'autofade duration' put back where it should be... in the autoplay...

Here's an excellent example of how Autoplay should be implemented -

http://www.digijay.at/

Ever drive a high performance car with an automatic transmission? You grab the shifter and it acts like a standard, but as soon as you let go, it behaves like an automatic? That's exactly how that program performs.

So.. Put Cross in automix and whenever you need it do manual hit the MIDI/keyboard controls...

Definitely won't work for all style, but this is what I use..

My only 'specials' are a MIDI button (korgpad) to set Autofade time to 0 and one to increase autofade time. (as unfortunately you can't set nor read the actual autofade time in the current version no more I found it to be more reliable to do a reset instead of inc/dec).

Still supporting the request to have autoplay more integrated...

Now up to V3.4.3 and almost 4 years since the original request to NOT have Cross DJ do an immediate transition when Autoplay is enabled. Really??

You're absolutly wrong.
You're only refering to the the start of this topic.
The request is way older....

So great you put it up again.

Like it will make a difference. It is truly unfortunate that Autoplay was implemented as an almost complete afterthought. This singular feature (not doing an immediate transition when Autoplay is engaged) keeps me on Serato DJ. Plenty of complaints over there as well, but it doesn't take them 4+ years to correct something that is obviously wrong.

The fact that it is a request for long time doesn't make it necesarily 'wrong'. Introducing this feature also introduces parameters/settings for the user. Where as a USP of Cross is reducing settings where possible.

It isn't a simple switch from normal decks to autoplay. If you're DJing actively you may have your knobs and faders in all kind of various positions. So if you're not at the controls while engaging autoplay you can have quite a problem when the chipmonks start singing the moment your golden shower just started

If you consider the Autoplay something as an afterthought you're absoluty out of your mind. It's been in the MV software for decades(!). Originally implemented to allow unattended radio broadcasts with smooth transitions.
