Instant Doubles (aka Cloning)

Postby MusicMeister on 29 Dec 2012, 03:49

Ok, I searched and there was a comment about this back in 2009 that it would be coming in the next release... but not much since then and no reference to it in the Cross manual.

So, any chance we can get it? :)

(If it's already there just let me know and I'll apologize for asking for something that's already in the software. :D ).

Daniel is correct.

The feature was added to Cross at version 1.7.1

Just had a quick look at the release notes for that version

NEW: Add the "Clone" feature.

Maybe check the Keyboard or MIDI mapping list. It should be there ;)

Actually, it is what I was talking about. ;)

I'm just surprised it's not covered or mentioned in the manual anyplace. The method to make it happen is a little different from what I'm used to but that part I can deal with. :)

I may be being a little slow on the uptake here, but what would you use this for?

Ever see a tablist loop a section of a track by hand - this helps immensely. You can also use it for creating some phasing effects - you drop a track on the second deck and then adjust the speed slightly to get the track to start phasing and you can use pitch to adjust up and down to change the amount of the phase shift.

There are plenty of reasons to use something like this... :)

The trick is to start playing around and getting creative...

Offtopic.HorsSujet!
yes this was one of the technickes for the less fournate who didnt have any effects ,also one of the hardest to accomplish, when the break beat was small in time  amazed at the techonolgy that can loop seamlessly  ,,,one of my tricks was to put spot markers on the label part of the vinal to mark the location of the break point ,,also enuff light to see the break section of the song

Is there a particular style of music that this technique is used for?

I've always loved mixing, but mostly with house and dance music. I never really got creative though - just track to track mixes.

  no perticular style ,,just a tool to use ,,to have a section of the song repeat ,,lets say a hook or a drum break,,this is accomplished more easy now because of the software,,the instant double will allow you to load a song in the exact spot that the master out is att ,, with the locators already in the software and the loop engine its become more error free,,i have seen it in rap and in the earlier stages DJ sampled section of records and manulitipated the tempo and beat selection to suit the needs of the rapper ,, ie run d mc walk this way .. beastie boys brass monkie ,,it kinda started on the streets with small DJ that couldnt /didnt have oppunity to get to a studio to make tracks from samples of break beats or hooks ,, all they had was the vinal to work with,, just my perspective
