A Small but useful tip

I've been experimenting a little, trying to tweak Windows 7 to give me maximum performance, and I've found a very simple way to boost performance quite considerably - disable Aero effects. I was really surprised at how much a difference it makes!

I was having a few stability, but problems with an older program (ahem! Virtual DJ  ) and decided to give this a try, and not only did it fix the problem, but seemed to improve the general performance of some other programs too, including Cross 2.1.

Simply right click on your desktop and select 'personalisze' from the menu:

disable 1.png

Then simply scroll down and select 'Windows 7 Basic'

disable 2.png

This is just one option - there are other ways, including disabling transparency, and/or disabling visual effects. Here's two links that show you how to do either or both of these:

By Cross or by Windows?

In Windows, Virtual RAM is set at 8GB, but I have 8GB anyway. Reckon I can halve this?

Microsoft recommend having the same amount of Virtual Memory as actual RAM, so in your case, that is set correctly. ;)

Do other programs hang/freeze too, or just Cross?

Only Cross.

Take a look at my thread here. People ran out of answers for me.
