Remix Video Pro WON' T PLAY unless clicking

I have the newest Remix Video Pro v 1.49
using the default pack and just a mouse.
The video/music clips won't play unless I am holding down the clip icon. The second I let go of the mouse button, it stops playing.
I have tried every setting and NOTHING works
This has been an issue for over a year and no RemixVideoPRo upgrades and no new MacOS upgrades have solved it.
I'm on a iMac 2017 with 64GB of RAM
