NVidia K2000 graphics and Cross - good or no difference?

Hey Rojec and crew,

Question for the devs possibly.

I have a K2000 adapter on my Thinkpad, and I have the capability to specify using it for Cross or not.

I know the general logic is that GPU is good, but what aspects of Cross are governed by the GPU in general?

The machine also has an Intel HD4000.

The reason I ask is that often times NVidia cards hog up DPC cycles, so their use in audio is counterbalanced by the fact that they screw up ASIO to a degree (so this is sometimes a bottleneck). Is it best to use the NVidia card for Cross? If so, what aspects of acceleration are improved by using it (OpenGL, etc)?

Trying to make a determination on which one would be best to use, as they both seem to work OK. I can probably try other versions of NVidia drivers, but that's a lot of work and testing if there's no real world difference based on what Cross requires.

From what I understood over time Cross doesn't use the GPU anymore but the CPU for vid.
If I'm right the reason merely was that due to the many varieties in GPU which obviously could en did cause trouble. For this they stepped back to using CPU (Cross meanwhile had become full 64bit which counterbalanced the performance issues).

A dev will have to confirm this but unless Adam (team@mixvibes) knows this it might take some time for any of them to reply to you.

Thanks Rojec.

I've tried and no discernible performance differences, but it makes me at least feel better to know I'm not leaving anything on the table if I just disable NVidia completely.

Happy Christmas from Hans and I, looks like you'll have to open the image in a new tab to see his face though

Hi guys,

Just wanted to confirm that RoJeC is correct and Cross uses the CPU for all video, though it can help to have a dedicated GPU for a laptop to give the CPU full RAM to work with, as apposed to an integrated GPU which borrows some of the system memory.

Warm wishes,
Adam @Mixvibes
