The "Free" version doesn't allow for MIDI.

You need the "Cross Demo" version. This version has 14 days trial for all features (like MIDI, HID and DVS) whereas the Free has limited functionality for unlimited period.

Do you have a MIDI device connected?

If you have a CDJ be aware that default setting at the CDJ is HID protocol. To use in MIDI mode (which isn't the common way) you have to change at the CDJ to MIDI mode.

As far as I know you have all Cross functions including HID and MIDI.

If you setup the CDJ's it should work without a problem (please first try the default HID mode). You could set it to MIDI mode in case you want the CDJ to behave different.
