Cross DJ older versions

Postby jp48 on 26 Jan 2017, 14:27

Hi,

I am running Cross DJ in some older (PC) machines, I would like to download some older versions, like 2.1-2.5, but Downloads archives links are not working, .zip files are corrupted, the size is just 245 or 246 bytes.

Anyone to fix those links, thanks !

For what I understand the versions that have an older database structure are no longer available.
Somewhere in 2015 the change was made in the downloads of the forum. Together with dropping support of other old software versions.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

The oldest version that supports the same database structure is 2.6.
Once you transfer all your track the peak files will need to transferred to the peaks directory. Once that transfer is completed you will need to analyze all track for peaks only.

This will not change your cue point or beatgrid it will allow for displaying the peaks correctly in the waveform.

I am starting some projects with recycled machines, no need to transfer any old databases or peak files, all tracks are analyzed again. Just the ZIP-files in Downloads archives, they are corrupted, I downloaded 2.01 version, it was fine, had all content, now I would need older versions for two projects, 2.01 is not enough, a bit newer. Both machines are old dual-core laptops, going to run XP on them, just lacking the correct Cross DJ versions.

I mean, if you check Download archives, you will see older versions, if you Download, you get corrupted ZIP of size 245 bytes, that's all. Link here:

I suppose then the problem is that you could download this one version.

Not sure why you want any 2.x version.

I'm running an old (2006) DC all day running latest Cross/Word/Access/Excel/Powerpoint/Firefox/Powerpoint/IE/snagit/notepad++/acrobat/email server and some more all together (just reading from my the task bar).

I do have a newer/faster laptop for the road btw..

Using older Cross versions also means you e.g. use older decoders (build in Cross). Same applies for current video sizes not being supported.

Might it be there is a problem with settings that makes you believe newer Cross version wouldn't work?

Let's take the first thing: there's an archive which contains ZIP-files that do not work/are corrupted. I don't know if this is a correct place to mention it, but usually if any other software I use contains older versions, the links work, I get what I need or want.

I run (on gigs) mostly XP, old 2006-2007 dual-cores, thought to test newer versions (2.1-2.5 for instance) as it seems that minimum requirements for 3.x is Windows 7/8. Older decoders are just fine (they are not that old :)), at least laptops I have used, the older are a bit (or a bit more) faster, and stable, that's most important, less bells and whistles, that's just better. I don't install Windows 7 as XP is very fast, use less resources, easier to have control to registry, not updating middle of the track. etc. Numerous reasons. Also running some in Linux under Wine, haven't tested any 3.x versions, but old ones works, not perfectly, but works (different problems depending of the version of Wine, and which distro I am using).

It's been confirmed and explained why the download of old versions don't work and for quite some time haven't been available no more.

You may prefer to keep using 1 or 2 old systems with obsolete software. The MV team apparently choose to avoid having to support software that may cause trouble running with supported OS's.

So I suppose you best try the current version and only when this has issues work your way back to older versions.

OK, good to know, as I can't test it, well, that's fine.

I tried to download other, newer versions, some ZIP/DMG's are fine, some are corrupted ZIP's or 255 byte DMG's (all 3.x.x versions). If Mixvibes doesn't support these anymore, or they are faulty otherwise, I think it would be great if they take faulty links away completely. When I buy software, one of the first things I check it if they also support older versions or at least that you can download them. When bought Cross DJ, I checked and at that point they worked. Other software I have license (like Renoise and Reaper), I have full access to old versions, hope that Mixvibes would fix that too. I prefer using older hardware, stopped that eternal race between faster computers/new software versions years ago. So, I buy old laptops for cheap, fix them (if needed), and run older versions of software (usually, not always) with them. Depends of the laptops, the project I am working etc.

Now, I took my recycled old Macbook 1,1, Intel Core Duo 2GHz, 250GB hard drive, 2GB RAM, OS X 10.5.8, thought to test with Cross DJ, doesn't seem to happen, newer versions support 10.6 ->, and older versions are corrupted DMG's (of size like 255 bytes). Tried to find minimum system requirements for older versions, not available. Well, if you work with older laptops, you know all this already .. :)

another moderator jumped in telling he didn't have any issue downlaoding older versions.

We're not really sure yet, but it may be browser related.

COuld it be you used firefox (like me).

If so try Internet Explorer...

For sure the assumption it was modified on purpose doesn;t seem t o be right. Very unfortunate it too like 2 years to have this pinpointed... But maybe just in time for you...
