Anyone running an Xponent with CrossDJ?

Postby loudsubz on 09 Dec 2012, 02:22

Been looking at using CrossDJ as my next software (coming from Virtual DJ and Torq). I see there is no native support for the Xponent but I also know it can be mapped, but wanted to hear first hand from those using it already if there is anything not working with this combo?

thanks

As for Cross and the Xponent - I'm thinking about trying it... my concern is the jog wheels though. I'm just not sure how easily those will be to get working. The rest of it should be pretty straightforward since it's simple MIDI notes and CC messages. Same for the lights on the Xponent.

I was hoping the new Behringer controllers would be out by now... but it looks like the NAMM joke is really a NAMNM joke on those... (Not Available, Maybe May - only this time it's Not Available, Maybe Next May). :(

If you get a mapping worked up let me know... if not then I may try mapping it myself sometime in the next week or two.

thanks for the feedback. Is there a demo of CrossDJ 2 or only the older versions? I am only hesitant to spend $50 to not have it work to my liking.

Jogs are pretty easy, if your controller sends diff notes for top and side touch.

If not you need a button to change from cdj to vinyl behaviour.

The whole mapping side of Cross(DJ) is quite straight forward.

If the jogs on your Xponent are touch sensitive then it can become quite tricky to map. If not then it's quite easy.

Actually, side touch doesn't send anything specifically.

It uses an encoded signal for the jog wheel itself with direction being a +/- off 64. The top is a modifier to determine if it's touched or not.

There is a button on the Xponent to turn off the 'touch' though.

I've pulled out my Xponent to see how difficult it will be to map - but I have to finish processing some vinyl recordings first... they need to get cleaned up so I can get them sent off. Once I finish and can remove the iLok I'll have a USB port I can hook it up to and get started. :)

Well, I was able to get a base mapping done for one deck and most of the mixer. I won't be able to match the workflow used in Torq - and I'm still not sure how to get the MIDI output to work so the lights come on...

I did get the jog wheels to work - but it was a little tricky... :)

Hopefully I'll have a basic 'rough' mapping by sometime tomorrow. At least for a standard 2 deck setup.

On a side note, for anyone familiar with MIDI mapping is there a way to use a modifier?

For example, pressing Cue+Shift causes Torq to set the Cue Point. Can this be matched in Cross DJ?

And where would I find the ability to send MIDI out to light up the lights? I didn't see that as a part of the normal mapping process.

Whoops... does this mean I need to hack the XML file and hand code the output? Tricky, tricky... Time consuming and tricky to get right - is there a break down on all the output options?

In XML I am sorry...

That's what I was afraid of.... :(

I don't suppose there's a list of the values available that can be 'read' from the software... (a data dictionary of sorts)...

Or do I need to scan the XML files for the other controllers individually and reverse engineer it?

On a side note - Any change someone has a mapping file that uses note on/off to turn on the lights on a device? I'm looking for the syntax to use and I'm not having any luck finding any...

As usual - getting the MIDI stuff IN isn't the problem - it's getting it back out that always proves to be problematic.

This is true but you can do it. The In instructions are listed in the options of the software... Message: see your pm box.
