New to Forum - Problem with loading tracks - Stuttering

Postby alanbetts on 06 Aug 2012, 11:08

Hiya,
I am new to the forum and have never used a forum before so please bear with me...
I have a OODJ MK5 Laptop and have Cross DJ installed on this with approx 50,000 mp3 tracks. I use an external mixer linked to the laptop.
I was DJ’ing at a wedding on Saturday and on some occasions whilst one track was playing on one deck, I was either moving a track to the prepare folder or moving a track to the other deck ready to play, the track that was playing stuttered for a few seconds whilst the other track was being moved.
It didn’t sound good and happened a few times and I was getting some looks from the crowd. Can you let me know if there is anything that I can do to stop this happening.
As I say I am new to laptop DJ’ing and using Cross DJ so any help would be gratefully received
Thanks Alan

Hi Alan.
Welcome to Mixvibes
My first thoughts are that i suspect you might have to fiddle with the audio cache settings to get the amount right. (preferences> general in Cross). Try just a little more or less to see what works best for your setup - everyones setup is different, so thats why this part is customisable.
Cheers

Just had a question for you - your setup;
is it a desktop PC (not a laptop, because the soundcard is pci style) within a customized briefcase or something like that? Just saw a picture of it, but couldnt find any more info on it.

Its a laptop PC (I think) - OODJ Mk5.

It has the sound card with output and inputs in the side of the briefcase. I use 2 audio leads going to 2 channels on the external mixer, so that it plays each deck on different channels. Only use it to DJ at birthday parties, weddings etc. Dont do any mixing just your very basic DJ.

You may have your ASIO buffer set to low for your system to handle. If this is the case then loading or moving tracks will cause audio glitches and stuttering.

Try increasing your ASIO buffer, normally found in your soundcard control panel ;)

Also do you have the latest drivers installed for your soundcard?

Older drivers or out of date can be causing you issues too.

Thanks for the advice. I will look at the settings and change them tonight and look at the drivers to see if they need updating. Thanks again
