Cross 1.71 Random single glitch while mixing, ruins a mix

Postby ldorio on 29 Apr 2012, 16:24

Hey guys,

I've been encouraged by a certain beta tester to report this issue.

When I am mixing, sometimes I get a single glitch on what is a completely random track. It ruins any mix that I am in.

I can lift the needle and go back to the part that skipped, and I can reproduce it everytime.

The track itself is not flawed, in fact I can load another track, then load the one that was skipping, and it will be fine.

I am using an i7-2630QM machine, Win7 x32, Ecler EVO5 mixer. I've also had this problem when using an RME Fireface 800 and my Core2 T9300 laptop.

This bug has been going on since I started using Cross, but I figured I just needed to get a faster machine, so I did. Then I figured it was because I was running low latencies, but I have increased to 128 samples. My machine is optimized for audio, and DPC latency is very low, WiFi off, etc.

This is really frustrating because I've tried everything there is to try, and I'm convinced this is a software bug in the track loading process somewhere. Because it happens with random tracks, never the same one twice, it's not possible for me to narrow it down to certain tracks causing a problem.

I hope someone cares enough to investigate this problem, as it's driving me nuts and I have spend countless hours optimizing my setup and countless money making sure I have what should be the most solid and reliable setup.

Is there a webcam or something comparable?
Did you disable power saving of your used USB port(s)?
Viele Grüße,
Cheers,
A plus,
Steve

When you say optimized, I guess you´ve already done that,
if not set the cpu management to 100% for lowest and highest value.

No webcam, and no USB power saving.

I don't use USB anyways for audio.

Yep, 100% lowest and highest value.

And audio optimizations galore... Using DPC latency checker and LatencyMon to verify.

You do use the Evo5 as your soundcard?

Add: Do you have an dedicated Grafix card? or only the HD3000 combined with the i7?

It´s just a shot in the dark, but lately with iCores and 32-Bit OS Versions I feel like there´s some trouble.

Yes, I use the EVO5 as soundcard. An I do have switchable graphics - both using the HD3000 and the ATI Radeon produce the same result.

hm, a tough one

any difference if you set the audio cache to 0?
can you give me a link to the exact PC model you have?
what does the dpc say when running Cross?

No difference at all, I've tried changing the audio cache and thought that it resolved the problem, only to have it come back later.

DPC latency stays under 150us, never spikes into yellow or red.

This is an HP ProBook 4530s, but as I said this problem happened on my Thinkpad T61p as well.
