(Solved) Analyze option to find un-analyzed tracks and ..

Postby Activated Soundwave on 21 Mar 2012, 11:27

I am having quite a lot of difficulty sorting out my collection etc, i just cant seem to find any easy way to sort my collection etc with the options and folder option given, It seems akward to me to organise my collection, I have many genra, and what i wish to do is sort out each genra into Its own box /Collection or is it playlist i want, but really in the Genral termanology i understand its a pre organisation before i setup a playlist which may then comprise mixed genra in my set.
So i wish to analyze and sort each genra into sub Folders within what i will call my overall DJ box/what i thgought you refer to as a collection, but when i try to do this it mixes up all my genra, thus in turn my second issue, anyalyzing,i have too many tracks to analyze in one go, and the fact as i mention i wish to have each genra in its own sub folder before i setup a playlist/DJ set and then analyze each genra in a logical fashion to keep orgnaized.

This is how i have been doing this:
So i add a genra to the collection, analyze these, but then i get confused at how to keep my next genra seperate without having to click/hi lite each Individually as i alreday have my last genra in the same collection that is already anaylzed, if i save a collection then i can not get each genra sub folder showing at same time, so only option seems like creating a playlist for each genra, but to do this i have to Remove what was in my last collection and once i do that my last saved playlist and what was in that dissapears,I ncan not figure out a logical order for doing what i think the manual is refering too.

I also Came across the option to find un analyzed tracks, but now i can not locate this option or any info in manual.

Please excuse my newbie questions as i have probally confused your Ternanology of collections/playlist/prepare, If some one could just make a quick list of the order of what i need to do, to setup my Record box so to speak,

I just want for example: and all in one location together
Recordbox/Crate/collection or what ever is my main folder option in the hirachy:

1) Main folder
2) sub folders
Breaks _folder
House_folder
D&B_ folder
etc
etc

Then after i cab sort out my DJ sets in what i thought you refer to as playlist.

Iam totally lost at the moment

Thanks

  i think one of the options is to set up smart list ,using say each genra as a pre determining factor, dont have thease issues with onlty 1000-1500 tracks. this will be the most time consuming endevor to get you collection to your liking   my advice is to seek this info, since not to familiar with its workings and make shure that the tags are written the way you want then since Cross uses thoes to talior the list to the critea written

Would i not then have to go into each track and lable it before hand, Breaks etc ? as not all tracks have a genra included in the tag or the genra tag it has is not always true maybe just genralised, some genra crossovers and can be so diverse as you know, and really its on the DJ to decide in many cases what genra catagorie, depening on his style or even the remix of a song may differ from the tag.
I have about 15,000 + tracks from the last 30 Years and some, also including all my old viynl ripped before i sold it, so a lot to organise.

So should i analyze all together in one collection
then name my genra tags as i wish and then set up smart list yes?

I will probally have to ask similar question throughout today reguarding this subject.

Thanks

  you will need more postive info   i used a tag editor program to edit mainly the covers because the media player covers didnt get reconized ,,ithink Cross dosnt write to the files when you edit them in the software(i maybe wrong) so that when you re anylise then/reload tags it dosnt keep the changes since it not in the tag(i maybe wrong) more postive info needed

If you want to keep you folder structure then you will have the use "File" option on the Node Dock (bottom left of screen). It works OK but it is quite slow going into and out of your folders.

I have my folder structure similar to you and this is what I do if I use my folders

You could possibly use the Smart list option. Although is pretty good it's still quite limited. It may change and get better in future updates but we'll have to wait and see.

I have to use 2 Collections. One I've named "All Music" the other "House and Dance".

Thanks for info, much appreciated,
Iam a bit gutted, looks like i may have to sit on Cross DJ for a while,I could spend days weeks trying to come up with some compromise that i may never find, Despite searches in manual, the manual feels some what vague or confusing on the indepth workings like this, and as you mention reguarding tags and what tag data can be changed and stored within Cross.

In an ideal world i should just be able to create a folder or subfolder hirachy and just highlite my tracks and drag to a folder i wish, then Analyze that folder and any tracks later added to that/those folder should have that search option for each folder to analyze only the un-analyzed additions instead of analyzing the whole folder again, maybe a Lock, and deffo info and tag info should be at least saved automatically before closing down, although serato does this and can crash, so just a simple save Progress so far option would be simplest and safest i reckon.

The biigest offput for me with this digital djing software simple things made difficult, why i like ableton, its as you do and what you make off it, nothing more nothing less, nothing hidden, but alas it aint no DJ Programme with on the fly looping or a decent Pfl Monitoring system that can be controlled or synced depite pre setting up Warp markers, and no track loading etc.

Oh well looks like i am stuck again! soul destroying! but i will still have a mess with Cross DJ, but probally have to wait for 4 decks! or? and just use my Orig located Music folders on the fly, or maybe set out small sets before hand if its a big gig i need to perfect a set for, my laptop is only a slow i3 but it seems to handle quite quick track analyzing on the fly.

Thanks for info again Daniel.

Ps thanks jim i will also try what you suggest before giving up, much appreciated.

If you don't want to write into your tags, then uncheck the preferences 'Save change in tags'. This way your files won't be affected but the mod will stay into Cross collection (so still usable). Warning : if you reload tags, this will erase all your collection tags (because not saved into tracks tag).

Unanalyzed tracks are the one with [...] into the A. column of the collection, so you can sort your collection by this criteria, or you can find them into the Smartlists section under 'Not analyzed'.

What I do is using smartlists by genre/folder and then sort the content by comment/year or whatever needed. Comment is a very handy field because you can add any personal code for your purpose.

I dont expect everything now, and we all have to appreciate the efforts all software developers put in to their products,i aint
one who expects the impossible now  thats just silly.
So yes I am not going so soon, It s just the time aspect and being able to get up and running, I am still waiting for Musikmess announcement to maybe come, And i can still have fun despite other aspects we talk about here. Its all about community and Chipping in for a brighter future, I dont think anythings going to beat the joy i found in Cross looping/relooping amon gst some other well thoughtout stuff.

Thanks

Gives me somthing to go at thanks for info,I can understand a little clearer now.

One suggestion it would be nice to have a minimal tag name option to start from, next to no tag names i would prefer, the only really annoying thing i have found is having to keep removing tags names i dont want etc, and what you have layed out does not carry over if i make a playlist etc, should be able to save or remember what i have already layed out,But then again maybe iam missing somthing.
Cheers
