BPM Detection

Postby Hannes on 05 Jan 2011, 22:50

Hi guys,
me again

I just found that on a lot breakbeat-tracks the bpm detection is wrong exactly 1bpm.

For example, the rogue element remix of "tell me how you feel" is 66/132 Bpm but Cross says it´s 65/130Bpm.

I dont care for mixing, as i still match by ear, but the autoloop is always way offbeat as it sets a too short loop.

cheers
J

Hi j-kut,

you can change the bpm manually if Cross is wrong with its analysation. After that the auto loop should be okay too!!

Steve

Hi Steve,

that´s what i do, still if only 5% of my library are detected wrong its quite a lot to tap manually

And since it´s always 1bpm i thought it might be a problem with the bpm analyzer itself.

You are completely right! I did not even think of this and just now I know why it is posted in the bugs section! Forget what I said ;)

@ Steve: no problem, I´m just trying to help

@ sylMV: did you get the link and did it work?

One more thing, it´s not always 1 bpm, Cross also seems to round bpm-values. E.G. when i tap in 86,5 Bpm it wont accept the tapped value, but saves it as 86 or 87 bpm. When i then change the Tempo-Range to "fast" (100-200BPM) so it calculates the track double-time it is wrong as well. then it sticks with 174 or 172 instead of the real 173BPM.

Yes i got the files.

But we can't see any issue on the tracks themselves.

However, there's a strange behavior in Cross that might be the cause of your problem.

In fact most of track tag formats only accept integer BPM values.

When you analyze a track in Cross, you got a BPM with decimals.
But as soon as the BPM has been written in tag and reloaded, you loose the precision...

Let me know if this corresponds to your problem.

We'll improve this in the upcoming versions...

I´m not that technical besides servicing mixers and analog stuff,
but i think i understand.

So the BPM value cant be stored in the track-tag permantly, and cant be overwritten on some formats at all? This would explain why it doesnt keep the tapped in bpm.

This is way too technical for me....
