My File that crashes Cross - Update

Postby Macgyver on 23 Jun 2010, 05:50

I made a post about this earlier, but I guess the link for the file was bad.

Okay so the problem:
File crashes Cross once dragged into Cross or imported into Cross

*the file does not crash Producer 7.21 (latest official release)
*the file does not crash s3rat0
*crashes Cross with or without a soundcard hooked up
*crashes Cross on different laptops
*Error Message: Cross.exe has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working corrrectly
*Analyzed the file with a program that is supposed to find corrupted mp3's, it analyzed the file, flagged it as a "problem", clicked for software to repair file, it showed that it repaired the file, put the file back in Cross and again crash (mp3val is the name of the program used)

Now the Fix:
*I cleared ALL of the tag fields from the file using a tag editor, put the file into Cross, and NO crash

I really can't understand why this should crash Cross.
This is the same problem with analyzing files. If you try to analyze files & Cross encounters a bad file the whole program locks up and shuts down so you never even know what the bad file was.

To me that doesn't make sense. You should at least be able to analyze all of your files without Cross crashing & a label should be placed by a "bad file" so that you can delete it from your library.

Here is a link to the file

OK, the bug was found and fixed, was due to some volume relative frames.

This kind of file won't crash Cross anymore in the next update !

This particular track, was sent to me so I don't know its origin. So I can't tell you how it became a problem file in the first place. I just know that it was a pain to deal with. Luckily this was a file that I found. There are more not many but all you need is 1 file like this to spoil your night.

Good job sylMV, now if you could only expand a little on volume relative frames and how it relates to the tag fields, since clearing all the tags (which looked blank already) actually made the file useable in Cross

& ummmm the question everyone is dieing to know, when can we expect a new update to Cross? :-)

But yes again very good job, I am glad that it seemed to be an easy fix so that it can be sent in the next update. I hope & I'm crossing my fingers on this, I hope that this will eliminate any file errors that Cross will encounter.

Sorry, it wasn't clear indeed ;)

It was due to a particular id3 frame storing the ReplayGain information. This ones is not handled in Cross (but shouldn't crash the app !) and we just never tested a file containing such a frame (as we don't use ReplayGain).

Good job !
Thanx again.
