Being vista with no service pack, the chances are the problem is with the usb root hub on your computer. There was a hot fix for the problem but they rolled it into service pack 1 and the download is no longer available.

is it a laptop you are using, whats the make and model?

By what methods have you tried installing service pack 1?

thankyou for helping me, i am in the process of downloading System Update Readiness Tool to try to get the sp1 to wrk. that may fix the problem. My com is a duocore laptop 1gb RAM plus 1gb Readyboost. The thing that is bugging me is that i had this problem bout a month ago and now i forgot how i fixed it last time

I deleted a .dll recently to do with mixvibes because it was fsg runtime packed which generally = malware or spyware, but i thought uninstalling and reinstalling would be enough to tackle this prob
dunno wot to do

The problem is generally caused when the computer goes into sleep mode then is woken again, or when the computer is booted up with the usb device still connected... it is a random error, it may work fine for a month or so then fail out of the blue.

Try reinstalling your chipset driver. You can find it either at your computer manufacture website or the companys website that built your motherboard. Offten that can force the USB drivers to reinstall and begin working.

If not...

Have you installed anything new into your system lately. This could be a long shot but prehaps you have a conflict.
