A few questions

Postby acemc on 10 Mar 2013, 22:56

Hi all. I hoping someone can help me with a few questions.

1) Where to change default hdd in CrossDj? I have 2 internal drives. CrossDj selects my apps hdd by defualt, the 2nd hdd is for music.
2) Any way to resize the font in collection - I need it bigger.
3) Any tutorials on mapping an led output? Just a basic breakdown explaining what an alias is, the why's & how's to get new Cross users understanding the basics - Please please please, I don't have any leds working right now.
4) Any tutorials / info explaining the functionality of modifiers in the mapping section of CrossDj - manual doesn't cover this.
5) Any way to get my music collection to display in a folder type structure, like it is currently on my hdd? For me to sit down & make individual playlists for each every music folder will honestly take forever (I can't import my traktor library - CrossDj crashes everytime I try)
6) How to get CrossDj to ignore MIDI messages when a modifier / shift is pressed? I want to press a shift key & reposition the pitch fader from max +/- to centre again. Then release shift & continue to adjust the pitch in whichever direction.
7) How to map loop roll (slip mode) to have a "hold" functionality, yet still be a "toggle" on/off in normal mode (slip mode off) I want to use my same autoloop buttons for loop roll but they must be hold only for loop roll only <- I hope that makes sense.
Any input on any of the questions will be greatly appreciated - Thanks in advance.

For what feature ? peak folder ? recording folder ?

2) Any way to resize the font in collection - I need it bigger.

No, we've tried to put it bigger than everyone else.

3) Any tutorials on mapping an led output? Just a basic breakdown explaining what an alias is, the why's & how's to get new Cross users understanding the basics - Please please please, I don't have any leds working right now.

There is one laying somewhere, I'll try to find it and give you a link.

4) Any tutorials / info explaining the functionality of modifiers in the mapping section of CrossDJ - manual doesn't cover this.

No, it is basically a combination, so when you will map a new control with the modifier, you'll end up with
MODIFIER+MESSAGE=COMMAND instead of MESSAGE=COMMAND
it will work as a layer.

5) Any way to get my music collection to display in a folder type structure, like it is currently on my hdd? For me to sit down & make individual playlists for each every music folder will honestly take forever (I can't import my traktor library - CrossDJ crashes everytime I try)

No but with the column brower, the smart list and the tags you can achieve it (I'm myself a folder guy).

Please give me a link to download you collection.nml file so we could give a look at it and try to fix this asap.

6) How to get CrossDJ to ignore MIDI messages when a modifier / shift is pressed? I want to press a shift key & reposition the pitch fader from max +/- to centre again. Then release shift & continue to adjust the pitch in whichever direction.

This won't work as CrossDJ can't manage relative pitching.

In the case you 're describing if you doesn't map the shift+pitch CrossDJ won't react BUT as soon as you release shift, the pitch will be connected.

7) How to map loop roll (slip mode) to have a "hold" functionality, yet still be a "toggle" on/off in normal mode (slip mode off) I want to use my same autoloop buttons for loop roll but they must be hold only for loop roll only <- I hope that makes sense.

You can't.
The loop roll is autoloop in slip mode.
The slip mode affect all the transport control.
A work around would be to use the Fx roll :
Activate will select and toogle the fx roll
Value will be sent by pads/rotary or whatever.

Thanks for the feedback.
First, concerning my hdd. In the home folder of CrossDj, I have the following: Downloads, Movies, Music. If I select any of these folders they are empty, because these folders are on my ssd. I only put my applications on this. All my music, movies & downloads are on my 2nd internal hdd. If I have my 2nd hdd selected, then I would be able to browse my music "explorer" style. Then regarding the modifiers - I understand the concept giving us a layer functionality. But an explanation of shift selector & shift logic would be very helpful.
If I understand you correctly regarding the "shift + pitch" even if I manage to get CrossDj to ignore the pitch slider movement while holding a shift button, when I release the shift button there would be a "jump" in pitch as it reads my slider's absolute position <- Thats a bit of a Bummer!! Thanks for tip on "roll" effect, I'm sure that will work perfectly. I have all my led commands for my NS6 so just an intro on how to begin mapping the Led's would be a HUGE help - Thanks. I'll post my collection xml as soon as I find it. Thanks for all your help.

What do you call the home folder of Cross ?
Please give me some screen shoot.

I guess you're using Windows. May be you didn't change the path for the libraries ?

Logic can be combinated, selector are exclusive.

And this is where the MIDI take-over start working, it just wait that you reach the real position.

Simply duplicate any mapping that is locked, open it into a text editor and look into the 'output mappings' section (bottom of the file).
This should be pretty obvious for the basics.

The "Home" folder is below "collection".
Im using a macbook pro, but if there is a way to change the path for my libraries - that's exactly what I'm after. I found my Traktor collection.nml but it is 64mb which is a rather large upload. I am on limited bandwidth right now. Did you receive the crash report I posted? As for the output mapping, I can get the very basics to work, like on & off. However there are other things like "pitch zero output" that has me stumped as I have no clue what to put into the "value=" part of it. Some are "true/false" others are "x" or "%" and numbers too. I'm sure there are also lots more I haven't seen yet. I spent my entire night last night here on the forum reading up & looking at other people's mappings and alias lists etc... So please forgive me for continuously asking for guidance here, but I really do need it.

Not a the office to check on a Mac, but you should try alias into the left column of the finder.
I think so because external and network driver also appear there and they are not user profil dependant.

.
I understand

Email ? Will check when back at the office.

As I told you I'm actually doing it (the mapping for the NS6) so I'll take care of this. There is no documentation for this so it will be a too large task to explain it all.

I've already got one there - I doesn't show up in CrossDj.

I posted this in another thread when you asked me for it. Sorry I didn't even think to email it: http://www70.zippyshare.com/v/7622699/file.html

Awsome!! Thank you x1000.
Just in case, if you need, I have all the led output commands for the NS6. Only things I haven't been able to get yet is the sysex fader request. I found the init command in a Torq folder, I just don't know how to use it.

Couldn't understand the issue at first but I guess that you have an Appstore version and due to Apple policies/rules (sandboxing) you don't have access to anything else.
