eeePC+external hard drive+mixvibes=no problems?!

i've got plenty of questions and I hope I can get some feedback on this. I plan on purchasing mixvibes as soon as possible, i've been hearing so many great things about the low latency, easy to use interface and so forth (plus i don't want to spend $500 dollar and up on Serato/Final Scratch). I currently have a HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop running Windows Vista, BUT I've been seeing quite a few eeePC users and I've been liking what I've seen... so in other words the laptop I have now will be for the regualar personal use and the eeePC would be used strictly for my mixvibes DVS/turntable setup.

so the questions i have are:

if i were to purchase an eeePC which model would be suggested and whats the general retail value?

i noticed that the eeePC is mainly running Linux. is MixVibes supported by Linux? or is there another install cd that can set me up with windows xp/vista?

i have tons of mp3s and i personally like to store them in my external hard drive. is it possible to play my mp3s from an external hard drive? and if yes, would there be a problem with latency or any problems what so ever? i just figured i can save some memory on the laptop to run as optimal as possible.

I think the ASUS Eeepc's are pretty good. I haven't used one first hand other than the cheapest version

Is it to use with control vinyl or CD ?

You should defenitely pic up a Win XP model. Indeed the HD works fine. Jiel can give you more details as our Eeepc specialist

Hello,

MixVibes on EeePC: I advice you to use an XP version ( EeePC 904HD or EeePC 1000 = 300 - 350€).

The 701 version is cheapiest (=150-200€), but you have to change the OS (Linux) into XP (not really difficult, you can find tutorials on internet)

We tested the 701 version, it works really good with MV 7 + U46MK2.
I think it could be hard to use this version for a live performance (not enough disk space for XP), I advice you to buy the version 904 or 1000 (more powerfull, better stability for live, and 160Go Hard drive )

I will test the EeePC 1000H with MV7 next week,I will publish a technical review as many people are interested in Netbook.

i'm debating whether or not i'd want to invest on another laptop for now, but it's awesome to hear different perspectives on it, especially with the power and the memory playing a super critical roll. hopefully in the future when things become somewhat "affordable" again.

wazza- thanks for the video, i've seen it plenty of times prior to it. just didn't know the specs on what Asus EEE PC that was used because i've seen the EEE PC here at my local Target and I was blown away when I saw how small that thing was but noticed the memory and the intel processor seemed kinda weak to me.

i noticed with the EEE PC does not have a cd drive. how are you able to install the software and components?

To answer a few questions in one...
playing tunes from an external HD will be fine as long as it's usb 2.0 as it runs at 480mbps.
in answer to the last question... installing the software should be easy, just rip the cd to an iso file and copy it to the eee PC, you can then mount it using daemon tools or something similar... only thing is ripping normal music cds will be a pain in the arse if you have a lot of em.

I would recommend the HP 2133 over the eee PC (it's just down to personal preference
