vinyl calibration issue

Postby frastamon on 26 Sep 2012, 15:25

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing some trouble with the calibration of my timecode vynils..
sometimes it doesn't succesfully calibrate and then out of nowhere it does..or somtimes also while I'm spinning, the "quality" of the decks goes down from 99 98 97 to 80 bringing shitty sounds and difficulties in controlling the track...sometimes it stops at all and I have to recalibrate or to do the install wizard again..and if this happens while you are performing is not cool..the scary thing is that is completely random somtimes I spin for 2 3 hours with no problem sometimes after 10min playing this problem came out;
thank for your help..
p.s. I already optimized my laptop to perform with digital vinyl and to decrease latency

Hey Frastamon
Check fluff or dirt build up under stylus.
Make sure your carts are connected well. Do the remove carts and 'blow' into the socket; and then put them back.
Check that your cables from the decks to the soundcard are working well.
Make sure your TC vinyls are clean.

With the calabrating thing, i found with dvs7 that i would calibrate; it would give a reading around say 85 ish to 95 ish, then i would lift the needle and put it back down and the reading would go up say 5-7 % (97-100%) read.....Whacky, i know but this is sometimes something that happened to me also. :eek:
These procedures sometime help, but not in all cases... ;)
Good luck
Cheers

No problem. Try swapping the rcas around from each deck if they are not hard wired even to isolate the problem. I remember that time code read in DVS 7 can be flawed if you lose just part of the signal from even only one channel. ;) One of the reasons I upgraded to Cross, as it's a lot more stable in Cross; even if you lose part signal.

Welcome to my world!

I've checked cables, swapped them around, re-fitted cartridges, tried different cartridges, done latency checks and still this happens to me. My workaround is usually to switch between 44khz and back to 48khz and then everything is fine for the duration of a set.

But this is half the reason I'm very close to giving up with timecode. However, I should say that since using the ESI driver I've not had many occasions where the signal quality has dropped during a set and Cross 2.0 appears much more stable on my cursed i3, sandybridge laptop.
