Cleaning your vinyl

I just bought some new records from my local music store for DVS 7. and they're a bit (really) dusty. just wondering if theres a proper way to clean this different type of vinyl.

ALSO
while i've got you here, i just wanted to ask if anybody else experiences a whirring noise as you play the record on turntables. if not could somebody please suggest what could be wrong, and what i can do to fix it?

Heya Keyringg.
I use an old toothbrush, methylated sprits and a fine cloth to get the dust and grease out of my Time Code records now and then. I also do this on my 'normal' vinyl. Not sure if this is the 'proper' way, or the right way, but ive been using this method for years with no ill effects or excess wear that i have noticed because of it. Works a treat.
The high pitched 'whine' if you are only hearing it from the vinyl on the turntables, and not through your speakers, this is normal for TC records. The only thing you can do to fix it is turn up your amp so you dont hear them so much !

Nah not at all. Think you would have to really lay into it to do much damage! If you are a bit hesitant, just use a microfibre soft cloth with metho. That will work aswell.
I just use the toothbrush cause i always get a lot of stuff on mine playing @ clubs ect

I used to wash a lot of vinyl records back in the day as I frequently bought pre-owned ones. I do that a lot less now but still do from time to time - those instrumentals and a cappellas sure are hard to find!

I bought a bottled solution (that came with its own cleaning sponge) that had to be diluted in a bowl of cold water. Soak the records/sponge in the water and gently wipe from the centre outwards. The most time-consuming part was letting the records dry out naturally while stood/propped upright.

All very simple but effective.

Commercial products tend to be expensive, and quite honestly, I've had good results using household products.

A couple of good microfibre cloths is a must though.

I've always got great results with warm, soapy water - normal washing up liquid seems best. I'd place the record on a flat surface, on a clean towel, and then clean it with the cloth. Then using a dry cloth, I'd gently dry it, using a circular motion, obviously.

This method has worked hundreds of times when I've bought records from car boot sales etc, and has restored some that I wasn't even sure would be usable.

Cleaning them likes dishes then put them to dry like plates in the kitchen.
(always done this before ripping a vinyl, you can clearly ear the difference).

I like that - don't use a dishwasher though!

I used to know a guy - a major collector - who used an industrial de-greasant hand cleaner (Swarfega) to clean his records, and he swore it was the best stuff ever!

Just another note : 'fancy' record cleaning 'fluid' is just isopropyl alcohol with a fancy record cleaning name. You can buy it at most electronics stores.
Its also great for cleaning out your crossfaders/ volume sliders too - (but it removes all the lubricant and you should get a can of lithium grease also too lube them back up - this method works a lot better than those all in one cans for faders, as it gets rid off the crap in there first).
