Mixvibes DVS + U-MIX44 Stuttering sound

Postby BaaZ on 16 Feb 2012, 21:18

Hi,

I would like to know if anyone had this problem before.

I was running a laptop (Dual Core 1.8GHz, 2GB Ram) with windows 7 64bit, i noticed that when I play music using timecode vinyl, the sound is stuttering / giving static. I have reloaded the laptop with windows xp, and all runs well.

I have then bought another laptop (AMD 64bit 2.1GHz, 3GB Ram) with Windows 7 64bit, the same occurred on that laptop even though the laptop has 1GB free RAM while using Mixvibes DVS, I have also tried running Windows 7 32bit on this same laptop, but the same problem occurs. I am anable to use Windows XP on this laptop, as it is not supported by the manufacturer and there are no drivers for windows xp on this laptop.

Is there any settings I need to change on mixvibes DVS in order to get it running correctly on Windows 7 (64 or 32bit)? or is it just a matter of the system specs being too small?

Thanks

Hey,

When it is getting stuttering it is an sign that the CPU is near the end of its power.
Memory is secondary: if the CPU has not enough power more memory will not bring better performance.

The main problem with AMD is that they are often not as powerfull like the Intel version. It sounds like AMD is not good but they have an other construction of CPU technologie so it is depending on the technology.

You can optimise your system for audio (look at the forum there are some threads about it) and uninstall all notused programs which could run in background.

I run DVS often on my old Centrino Mobile 1,8GHz with 2GB memory but 32bit system and it works very stable but only with analysed files.

regards
Christian

Thanks Christian,

Are you running Windows 7 32bit with the centrino 1.8 that you mentioned?

I have checked my cpu usage during playback, it never passes 40% load, which do not make sense for me that the cpu could be the problem here, what i do not understand, is that a friend of mine use the same setup, but with windows 7 on a netbook PC running an atom cpu, which is supposed to be slower than the AMD 64bit and intel dual core processors.

I am clueless here. :)

Check if there is something else which runs in background and yes I'm running 32bit win 7 on my centrino because win 7 need to much memory in 64 bit so in 64 bit I recommend to use 4 or more gb to run win 7 with good performance.

Check also if your audio files on the local HDD are not fragmentated!

Christian
