Installing Mixvibes DVS without cd?

Postby Djoram on 01 Aug 2011, 16:31

Hi everyone,

First, I hope this is the right place to ask this question, if not please excuse me.
Then the actual question.
I've read on the mixvibes FAQ you're allowed to install mixvibes DVS on 2 PC's with one serial. That's great because I want to install the software on my 'DJ-notebook' which is actually just a notebook optimized for audio. But the problem is that my dvd-reader broke down. So my question is or I can download the installer somewhere or can I copy all content from the installation-cd to a pendrive? And would this be legal? (I have a serialnumber for mixvibes DVS 6.39)
I hope someone can help me out.

Greetings
Yoram

This will not work but you can do the following things:
Yes you can install it on two PCs because most persons (me too) have a backup system if the main system is broken.

You can create a Image from the CD and open it at the computer with the broken DVD drive with Deamon Tools or an other Virtual device program.
The other option is when you have two computers at a local network: You can insert the CD at the one computer and set it as a shared folder (in this case it is a shared CD Drive ;)) and open the setup.exe at the other computer via net-drive.

To get access to a special computer insert this at your adress bar in your explorer: \\<your computer name or the IP>\<Directory Name>

[EDIT] I've installed it a few years ago with an network drive which I shared from my old P4 XP computer. It worked quite well. (Notebook with two batteries and no CD Drive)

regards
Christian

DVS needs the install from the cd, as the updates arenĀ“t stand-alone version like the Cross-updates.

1 - Find an external CD reader (or repair your reader)
2 - Install the CD version on your notebook
3 - Download the latest DVS version in the download center
4 - Install the update

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you all for your help!
After all I made a CD-backup (.iso) and used magicdisc to "mount" it on the notebook. Worked flawless!
The reason I've gone for this option is that I couldn't find a (decent) external dvd-reader and because the notebook is quite old getting a sparepart was to expensive for the added value. But it's fixed now thanks to you guys! so thank you very much.

Greetings
