Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say loving Cross, own pretty much all the softwares and found Cross, think I'm gonna stick, been using vdj8 since launch but just Cross does it for me, retry much a good blend of serato, traktor and vdj all in one.

Only one thing is I'm used to folder structure, might have to learn new way, that's why I didn't get on with traktor and to me, serato crates is a joke. One thing iI'd like to ask is, once a folder is added to collection is it monitored, as in I put some new tracks in the folder outside Cross, when I open Cross are the auto added to the collection. I've got 40,000 tracks to add and want to do it right. I've read the manual but still a little fuzzy.

Thanks John Tankard

 welcome to mixvibes and Cross,, the main point of intrest in this posting is a auto add feature for the collection ,, dont think this has ever been implemented ,,not shure that it will ,, ,, any :?: :?: that you have along thease concerns about folder structure and smartlist and playlist can be answered here ,since the progersion of up dates and new features has progressed past the manual keeping up  hope this little bit helps ,,
one point of info is that to use the smart lists properly your tags have to have the info you want in then ,, weather by outside tagging or using Cross to edit your tags
my collection is about 3000 files so my mission is not as great as yours  more informed user will step up to answer any :?: when you get to ask them,

Welcome. In Cross you can drop any file or folder straight from explorer. If you drag it onto the node called collection in the left node dock next to the collection it will be added right away. If you drag a root folder all sub will be checked also.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your quick replies. So, if I drag a folder onto the collection node that folder is added, understand that, now... If I then add a single file to that folder outside of Cross and then open that folder will the Cross database see that new file in the collection?

Thanks John

No it won't. Cross does not interact with the file system.

You should either drag this track to, or a higher level folder. With the latter all new files will be added.

Alternative is accessing new tracks via the Files node.

You can also have multiple collections if you like. E.g. for different purposes. Though in most cases maintaining a collection and using smartlists will do this job with less overall effort.

Ohhh no,

That's the reason I moved from traktor and serato to vdj, I have about 40/50 new tracks each week and dump them into corresponding file folders, vdj then just auto updates it's database. This may prevent me moving fully to Cross then. It may not seem like a big deal if youre not used to it but to me it is. Ahhh well, thanks for your help guys.

John.

Mixvibes: if in future you can implement auto update of collection I'll be back... Good software though.

Might be your preference, I would hate to have my collections updated automatic. Worst case having a small collection and then having all my tracks added to it due to a setting..
Updating my (main) collection weekly to. In the whole process of updating the adding is like a few seconds.
Most work is organizing the files and after import modifying the data to fit my needs. And most important here to have analyzed tracks, so you know you do not have corrupt tracks added.

Cross is a really working around a fast collection containing prepared tracks, without surprises when using it live.
I can't imagine that the use of any of the DJ programs would depend on this issue solely.. At least given the alternative ways of achieving the same.

So you might want to give Cross some more chance and check out the differences that make your gig better...

This is just my opinion.. The Devteam determines the roadmap...

Cheers Rojec

I appreciate your comment and REALLY do like Cross! I may just bite the bullet and see how it goes, my collection is kindof tagged, some track genres are wrong and I don't sort by tags as I know where my tracks are in their folders. Maybe time for change and see how it goes. The Cross layout, sound, etc is great.

I'll get all my tracks imported into one collection and see where we go from there... Think the import will take a while :(

Don't hesitate to post more suggestions. Some will make it.. Others might be there already, but not found yet by a new user.

After importing it is recommended to do the analyses. You may want to start with creating a temp playlist and add a couple 1000 'likely to be used soon' tracks into it. Then batch select and start analyses at the right node button.(or right click menu). You can do this unattended. Especially when mixing small parts of a track this is recommended. And it is a one time effort.

The playlist is just to help you in selecting the bunch once in case you have a crash on a track. Please send such a track to the team if a second attempt has the same result. The team will try to catch it and avoid it from happening again... Especially people with large collections run a little more risk as they do not own mainstream audio/video types (encoded) music only.

 if you hightlight a track in your collection and use ctrl/a , then it will batch anyalise your selections,,
