CDJ 2000 or 850 for Cross

Hi - I'm a newish user (managed to map my XDJ-AERO to use Cross at a basic level on 2 channels which I'm enjoying), but I'm looking towards the future now and hoping to get a pair of CDJs to use with my old Ecler Nuo 5 mixer (looking to get a DJM eventually).

My question is, how well does Cross work with the various Pioneer CDJs (I'm looking at getting a pair of 2000s second hand or new 850s)?

I know pretty well how the cdjs perform when just using rekordbox (which will be about half my gigs), but when using my laptop and the Cross supplied mappings, are the CDJs about the same or is there still a lot of extra features the 2000s have over the 850s ? I'm guessing the 850's beat slice buttons are used for samples/hotcues.

Hope someone who's used either or both with Cross can give me some pointers. Thanks for any info :)

Hey,

I'm a user of two CDJ 2000 nexus and an DJM 900 nexus. All are running great with Cross. I'm using the internal soundcard of the DJM900 but I also tested to run with the CDJ soundcards which worked also very well.
With Cross you have the option to run the Pio products in HID Mode which allows you to controll nearly all like the CDJ would do it. Also you get more information like Trackname, Cover, PBM and so at your Display of the CDJ (what is shown depends on the Product of Pioneer and it's display).
To link them it is also very easy with Cross. Just connect each player with the USB cable to your notebook (Macbook) and press on the CDJ link -> select Cross -> select Deck A,B,C or D and press enter and the CDJ is set as the Player for this Deck. I'm using this nearly every weekend and it is working flawless and works fine and smooth without any issues. Also you can brows through the tracks (depends also on the Model you use).
If you need more information ask them here I will do my best and answer as fast as I can.

regards
Christian

Thanks so very much for the detailed reply Christian - I didn't know so much info would appear in the screens when using HID - that's fantastic to know :)

One question I'd love to know is, do the ABC hotcue buttons all work fine with the CDJ 2000 Nexus' also ? I'd just done some more digging on the website and found some info for the 2000 (mk1) and 850 players which was handy, but neither mentioned how the hotcues for when working with Cross seemed to work (both seemed more aimed at beatloops)

I'd love to get a pair of 2000 Nexus one day (I actually had one and a MK1 2000 back in May, but sadly a big event I was promoting didn't do too well and I had to sell all my Pio gear to put towards the losses- been a really painful year lol, but am finally starting to save for replacements thankfully) - which is one of the reasons I'm considering 850s and using Cross. I could get a pair for same as a single Nexus, and then hopefully get a pair of Nexus hopefully this time next yer and have 4 decks. But that's for the future, but glad to know Cross works so well with the flagship Pioneer players :)

Hey,

the ABC HotCue buttons are the locators at Cross. So you can push them (if nothing is set it will create the locator) and pushing it again will jump to this location back again. Also the Rec/Cal Button under the ABC Buttons work like a shift to clear the buttons agian. So if you didn't need this locator anymore just press Rec/cal+ABC Hotcue button to remove it again.
If you want to see how it run with Cross here two youtube video which show how it works ;) and if you need more info ask here we will help you!!
