Is Cross DJ the same as just Cross?

Postby Mutant Beach Party on 06 Oct 2013, 22:21

Sorry if this is a commonly asked question, but it is nearly impossible to search for obvious reasons. Are there two distinct products in Cross and Cross "DJ"? I've looked at the pages for both products and they appear to be pretty much the same. I'm really interested in this, what with the rekordbox integration now, but as best I can find I'm being required to pay double to get HID support, which leaves me scratching my head, because it doesn't even say HID in the description anywhere. I prefer to just buy it off of iTunes, but I only see Cross "DJ"... and the price seems fair... Most companies seem to give HID support free, so I assume I must be missing something. Also, if there are indeed unique products here, I would recommend to Mixvibes to use a slightly less cryptic term to differentiate your DJ products than "DJ". Maybe like "LE" or "Full" or "Suite" or something that you can actually google and get results for. Thanks.

Cross also has HID capability, and Timecode. For the ability to jump into a club and DJ off of CDJ's just like you would any other controller, I would recommend Cross.

Helpful. Thank you. I have CDJs so the additional $50 for HID is necessary, and also completely absurd. I can kind of see it for Timecode, but for just HID is a total rip off. Also, they should update the website to better reflect that distinction. That comparison chart is the only place it is clearly stated, and the Cross and Cross "DJ" software pages are identical. Being that I'm a DJ, I assume the the "DJ" product is the one for me. I almost bought Cross DJ off of iTunes, and then I would have had to pay $60!!! for a single HID mapping!!! Thats like buying a keyboard that won't type until you buy it again.

I did click the link, and nowhere on that page does the term "HID" appear... if you click the comparison chart it does, but that's literally the only place I could find it, so sincerely, thank you. I think it's a bit of a sham though. HID isn't some brand new protocol that warrants a $50 premium. Am I missing something, or is that pretty much the long and short of it? Is there some other feature, aside from timecode, which I won't use, that makes it worth the extra scratch?

 it is all there, I suppose. If it were $50, it would have been a no brainer, but double that for just HID is a hard pill to swallow. I'd like to try it, but the free version, which I have played around with, doesn't really show me any of the stuff that would make me switch from my current choice of Traktor. Nor did it, when I tried to register the free version, give me any idea that when I upgraded to Cross DJ, the only option given within the free version, that I would then have to pay an additional $60 on top of that $50 to "upgrade". I guess I'm hoping somebody from Mixvibes sees my post and recognizes what I see as a fairly major discrepancy in their pricing and upgrade path. As is, with the free version, I'm totally unimpressed and unwilling to pull out my wallet. Rekordbox integration sounds brilliant, but without being able to test it properly, with my rig, it's too much to dive into. I want to very badly, but I'm getting bad vibes :D

 by the comparsion chart ,,Cross entails timecode control ,MIDI control and recently hid control ,,
Cross DJ has only MIDI control ,, priced differently for thoes who only want MIDI control,,
Cross price is less than i paid to upgrade in 2008,,
the free version is set up to give the intersted a chance to get a feel of the software,,with natural limitations

the upgrade price is for a regerstered mixvibes software user and is a up grade to Cross..

Traktor w/no timecode = $89
Traktor w/ timecode = $119

Serato w/ timecode = at least $300 for just a box, unless you get really lucky or have a friend

Virtual DJ (legally) = $299

I don't understand your "hard pill to swallow" argument? Without a controller, Mixvibes Cross is still cheap at $99, which is the cheapest you can get DVS control for, unless i missed a software?
