Whine coming from speakers when using timecodes.

Postby amatuermixa on 16 Apr 2013, 21:33

Been using my Cross Pack for a couple of months now and I've got to say I've been really impressed with it. Sadly since last week there has been a very high pitched whine coming from the speakers (changes in pitch with the pitch slider) about 50% of the time when I'm playing the timecodes - sometimes it happens, sometimes it works perfectly.

It usually comes from one turntable or the other and when it happens it messes around with the headphone cue from the left deck, I can only hear whats playing through the left headphone and nothing through the right (hope that makes sense - sorry)

What's strange is that it only happens when I'm playing the timecodes. If I spin vinyl then there are no problems at all, which makes me think the problem probably lies within part of the Cross Pack.

Its becoming a real nuisance as I can't control when it happens meaning I can only mix whenever its not happening. I've racked my brains over what could be causing it, the only thing that's changed about my setup is that I got a new PC around the same time it started happening, but I use my laptop to mix with so I can't see what the PC would be doing to cause this noise.

any help here would be hot! thanks.

Next time this happens, go into your audio settings & check the routing. It sounds like the timecode signal is somehow being routed back out to the speakers. I've got no idea what would cause this, but I've had instances when I'm scratching where (it seems like) the MIDI signals get a bit mixed up & change other things in the software. Try to take note of what you did just before this happened, then we can try isolate what the cause is.

What soundcard are you using? Sounds like you need to mute the monitors in the control panel.
MacBook Pro - 15" (Mid 2014)
2.2Ghz Processor
16GB RAM

U-Mix Control Pro 2
Cross 3.3.10

Update your soundcard drivers and check for input monitoring into the soundcard panel. It should be off.
