Switching from Traktor to Cross DJ

Postby LOois on 10 Mar 2013, 14:46

Hello,

I'm currently a Traktor user (Kontrol S2 & F1 controllers) but if I could I'd switch because I think it's a big fat animal and I don't share commercial Native Instrument's philosophy at all. It seems like Mixvibes is a more open and flexible company..

I've installed CrossDJ free and tested it a little. I must say I'm positively surprised by its features and overall usability. I use to mix different genres, therefore I really like the cycles/phrases/beatgrid approach (that Traktor really lacks).

I'm now starting to think of trying CrossDJ in a next gig and see if it suits me. But I have some questions:
    - can I find an existing mapping for my Traktor Kontrol S2 and F1 ? If not, will I be able to map it myself if I buy CrossDJ full version?
    - it seems I can't drag & drop tunes from my mp3 player (Mediamonkey) directly into CrossDJ like I can in Traktor, how can I do that ? (that's very useful as I do my next tracks research in Mediamonkey using all my filters and tags)
    - how can I edit locators names ? (I searched everywhere but couldn't find ; is it only possible in full version?)
    - does Mixvibes plan to release an app/controllers on Android or Windows touch devices in the (near) future ? (I'm against Apple products)

    - About this forum: where can I find a guide that explains where and how we post messages..? It's kind of confusing to me (for ex. I wish I could post in the french forums but couldn't).

It would be terrific if someone here could bring me some answers to my questions ! :)

Thank you very much

regards

  welcome to mixvibes fourm,,,glad you like Cross ,, even thought its a free version ,you still have limitations in it
not shure as to why you are not able to post on the french fourm  un regerstered user have limited posting areas,ie gen chat ,, dont post on the french fourm as to not being bi linigual
as for the :?: about locators labeling ,, dont think that avaible ,,glad to hear your thought on why that should be possible
as for mapping different controllers, its realitilivy straight foward ,made slightly difficult by different coding ,by the different manafactures set up
check the product page and doccumation for avaible controllers that are mapped for the software
http://www.mixvibes.com/content/support ... umentation
as for dragging and dropping from a mp3 player/mediamonkey no info
i use media monkey for tagging also and the tags do get put in Cross when you anylise your collection,,

About the locator renaming, you can do it via right click on the locator slot.
FYI, you can also rearrange them by drag 'n' dropping them on each other (anchor point being the number).

Concerning S2 and F1 mappings, there aren't any official ones. But some guys have certainly either some complete mappings or hints to do it yourself!

There isn't any available off the shelves, may be some users have done it.
Yes you will be able to map it yourself, the only drawback would be to map the leds because it isn't a straight process.

CrossDJ can also manage tags, filters and smartlist, may be you could give it a try.

We're thinking about it nd if it happen it won't be soon.

Mapping the leds, is not that hard. There is a topic I made in association with others in the dev team.

I used to use iTunes to do all my tagging and such, but now I'm almost using CrossDJ exclusively for tagging. There are only a few things that I do with an external editor or music application, and that's so that all the files are under the same folder structure.

Also, you will enjoy the switch, everyone does :D

Mapping the S2 will require creating a new template in the kontroller editor and then mapping within Cross.

I have Traktor S4 and I'm dabbling with this myself.

Hi everyone, thanks for all your feedbacks, that's very nice :)

About the tagging, I'm using less than 10 custom tagging fields (rating 1 to 10 for energy, tag for tempo, mood, genres, sub-genres, ... see here http://screencast.com/t/IMzdKq67e). What's very powerful is the columns above where I can filter my tags. I can see that Cross does the same but the number of columns is limited to 3 and I can't see if that's possible to add more custom fields ? Why isn't possible to drag&drop files in Cross?

@sylMV : thank you but is possible that the right click does not work in LE edition? (I tried it but it has the cue play function)

About the future of Cross: could you guys give me some infos about what is coming? I can see that updates and new feeatures are released at a good pace ; why will it better that Traktor in 6 month or 1 year ? :)

Thank you very much
