Anyone Map the Native Instruments S4 yet?

Postby MusicMeister on 27 Feb 2013, 08:24

I didn't see a mapping in the downloads section...

I had a great deal on one recently and thought I'd try it with Cross....

The s4 is a good deal... because the one you're picking up is probably broken somehow. Those things break faster than any other hardware I've ever owned. I know 4 people with S4's, not a single one hasn't been to the repair facility or replaced at least once, and they are how old?

Steer clear, all I can say about NI.

Had this conversation with the boss...
I wasn't so conviced that a S4 user would want to switch to Cross as the thing is sold as a full integrated package.

On a more technical side, the device in MIDI is less capable than into their own protocl (can't remember the name), and things will certainly be less precise (jogs, faders), not even talking of the behavior of some parts (fx box, remix deck ?).

Could try to do something if there is enough needs/asking...

Hint: Traktor doesn't do video. ;)

Even if it's 'crippled' by using MIDI and comes as a complete system, I firmly believe that if someone has a need for video they may use the S4 and Cross. There aren't a lot of other alternatives out there...

Unfortunately, I'm using Traktor or Torq for audio right now... because of the Apple Lossless thing. ;)

As for it 'lasting' and the build quality. I've only seen a few bad reviews and those deal with the crazy microphone routing which most people can't figure out.

The one I bought is basically brand new and works wonderfully. ;)

If you want I'm more than happy to help with getting a mapping done on the S4. :)

remember my z2?

If there´s stuff NHL only on there, it´ll be wasted time and effort...

Edit: just checked in their controller editor and the deck-buttons (A/C B/D) are either NHL or the they default midi-output is crap.

see, Midi-out for DeckA and C is the same by default

If you aren't set on Jogwheels with your system, I recommend a Xone:K2 and CrossDJ. If you decide it's not for you, then you are only out $250, and you can either use the K2 elsewhere cause it's a great controller, or resell it for not too much different. NI's stupid NHL protocol, and wonky MIDI out/in for anything that's not NI is why I won't go back, among other reasons.
