Chatting With Your Audience...

As I am a Karaoke DJ as well as just a music DJ, I'm very comfortable talking to my audience. Indeed, as a resident DJ, I can get to know them and have a little fun with the people that are there. I feel that some times, you can entertain them with what you say, almost as much as what music you play.

What are your thoughts about chatting and interacting with your audience?

When I have started as a radio DJ in 2004 I have mentioned every track in my set by saying something about it. After some shows people got back to me saying that this is not the way it should, they want to hear the music, not me telling stories about music, so I stopped.
In clubs therewas and is never an MC and none of us DJs ever says something - let the music talk ;)

I agree about music in clubs, the music is the 'star', not so much the DJ, but on radio, the DJ should be allowed to talk and be interesting.

At my gigs, I usually know most of the audience, and can have a little fun with them - sometimes a DJ can entertain people with chat, just as much as with the music.

It's about balance I guess - I've seen djs at parties that talk way too much!

  its just like the music ,must be a balance  a DJ must read the crowd to play the right music, build the right atsmosphere ,,entertain the crowd ,give them what they want to hear and learn the on new stuff that you enjoy,,just like a good story teller can give you the experiences you want and desire a good DJ can weave your emotions with the music he playes ,, so if you have the talent of speech and the crowd is recesptive then its all to the enjoyment
