Advantage of a Small Controller :)

Postby BennyB on 25 Aug 2012, 08:43

So hey boys'n girls (and everyone between)

It's been a long time since I posted some irrelevant stuff, so brace yourselfes, for some serious lines bellow.

So my twisted mind is in dubstep. Not the classic UK dubstep, the mainstream wobble based dubstep-brostep stuff (which I call Bass in general). Don't balme. The original dubstep, which Burial started, is my favourite, and also I'm into Liquid DnB, but crowd don't dance to these).
On gigs, I found that the audience is hungry for excietment, and not just in music... I remember people ask me to jump, move more and intesively with the music, to pump up the crowd.

Next move:

So the U-Mix Control Pro is a small cotroller, easy to handle, and light... and I have plenty of space between the crowd and the DJ table.
So on the next what I will do is this:
- Rout the audio out of my Reloop iQ2 MIDI
- I'll bring my 5m long USB cable, which I'll connect to the controller(and fix somehow in the connector), and then, I'll grab the controller, and go in front of the crowd, and mix and dance while holding the U-Mix Control Pro. With the 5m USB cable, I'll have plenty of space to move, and the crowd will go damn crazy :D
(For safety reasons, I decided not to stand onto the DJ table. I don't wanna be dropped down like the Bass :D)

So what do you guys think about this? Anyone had ideas like this? :D

I'm some kind of "introverted DJ" meaning I do not push the crowd that often and let the music do this. But I know that people want to get entertained and therefore I think what you are trying is worth testing ;)

5m is the USB standard maximum range, without repeater :)

Shure, but 1,6µs is specified the rtl maximum iirc, anything bigger than that will cause the connection to be stated as disconnected, you do not want that.

I´d never go over 3m.

Don't forget to unmap the jogs or map them to something not crucial or dangerous.
Jumping around with these will send datas : just shake it and you'll understand.
You'd better run something lighter/cheaper for those kind of performance imo.
