How many MIDI devices can you run simultaneously on Cross at the same time?
Is it max 2?

No real limit, compatibility issues are predictable as most controllers use the same MIDI channel.

Are there ways to change the default in and out channels for some controllers using additional software for example to avoid signal clashes? Any recommendations for tried and tested stable software that runs well with Cross? thanks in advance :D
Cheers

Only if your controller comes with an editor.
I don't know of a third party tool to change the sent notes.

My Allen & Heath Xone:1D has the ability to send out signals on 16 different MIDI channels. So if you have got 16 of the 1D you can send out signales on all 16 channels and it should work flawlessly - hopefully. Never tested, do not have even two of them (not even one, left it at my best friend in germany).

Same here. My iQ2 MIDI is set for example to chanel 10 by default, but it is easy on the fly to change the channel.

My Contour also had a channel for each deck (1-4), and I could change that to 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16.

I'm looking forward testing my iQ2 MIDI alongside my U-Mix Control Pro. It would be nice to make it control all decks, or usind UMCP-s soundcard, and iQ2 MIDI as an external mixer

Offtopic.HorsSujet!
BTW on the gig I head on friday, I was ammased how good the iQ2 MIDI is. I hated it till this gig. It is versatile enough as a controller and sound interface. There were 3 laptops, one was minde, the other was a Macbook running Traktor, and a thrid one with Cross trying to record the set, and helping make the switch between the two of us.
(I just diconnected the USB, gave it to the other guy, while playing music through the third laptop, and it was a good transition between DJ. He just loaded the mapping for his Traktor, and boom he played).
And as it is modular, I can use it in external mode, and I can choose to use the FX of the mixer, or make just the FX part controll Cross. And switching MIDI on the FX section on-off does not mess up the sound coming through the mixer, it is flawless :)

I have connected up to 8 controllers that was all working together.
But it is obvious that you will have issue with common messages over different devices.
