 has techonoligy progressed to the point that some of the situational handicaps have been overcome/elimated :?: ie speaker set up.30 years ago the only way to have options on speaker placment was to carry 100 to 200 ft of speaker cable and duct tape to keep it from being a tripping hazard  has wi fi techonology alliviated this. :?: sound mangement :?: years before the improved capibilitys of speakers , had to take efforts to be able to get the best sound out of what you were able to afford,ie i set up a system with two seperate amps to be able to power up the base on one set of speakers,(pair of 18" woofers)and the second amp powering a set of four 12" three ways for the mids and highs

Technology is - in my opinion - always bound to progression. If it is a good or a bad thing everbody has to answer for him/herself. In some cases, i.e. your mentioned points, it are advantages. It depends on the point of view I guess, but in general it is a progression ;)

hey,

I agree with you but for me for example I love the wireless microphones but I would not buy a wireless speaker system. I know from work with the wireless microphones that it can be tricky to setup a good system with no bad noises on the system like electronic noises or created from the resiever at the antenna.
What I prefere is current a complete active sound system. I orderd now two new little active speakers which I want to combine with my Bass for smaler gigs. Then I have not to transport my heavy amp case with me (round 60kg) and two speakers with 25kg. The new speakers have 14,5kg and I don't need a amp case because the amp is in the box ;).

regards
Christian

  when i was in the scene ,commom place was using peavy musical amp and speakers,,gemmni and Numark were brand new to the scene,.powered speakers were not thought up yet, powered subwoffers, same, top notch was having a voice of the theater speaker to give the bass,  with the advances in speaker design, smaller is better size ver sound, but still cant get away in the bass section,,.thought there might be issues with wire less setups,, :( still dismayed by systems that scream at you when the option is there to have it surround you   just thoughts

I'm loving using my active speakers - so much more convenient. There's another aspect to consider - the fact that with amplifiers built in, you've always got sound if one of them should malfunction. In the past, if an amplifier died, then it was 'goodnight everyone and sorry about the silence!'

The speakers now are so efficient that even smaller speakers sound very good, but the thing I miss is the appearance. A system with big 18" bass bins, mid range cabinets, and huge horns on top for the treble just looked fantastic! Even if they did cripple the poor DJ getting them into places.

I think that's why lighting is so important these days - because the speaker system don't look as good, the lighting HAS too.

In my opinion, the best thing to happen for djs is the LED lighting effects. These things last forever, and look so good, compare to the gear we had 25 years ago when I started dj-ing. I used to spend a fortune buying new bulbs, and they were really expensive!

Regarding wireless equipment - microphones are great, I wouldn't use anything else for karaoke. The only other thing I'd like to see, for professional use is a wireless projector - that would be brilliant! I don't see the need for wireless speakers though.

  any thoughts on the wireless comunications from comp to say anp and have they got systems that can connect to a powered speaker system  briefly look into it when i undertook the task of hard wiring my house and garage and back yard for sound, talk about an endevor  would have been simpler to have my amps recieve a wireless signal from my computer  than to wire 7.1 outputs thrue the attic and to the livingroom where the amps /speakers were, wired up 7.1to two amps,,still had a hum from the long wire run.
