game booster

Postby daniel clark on 08 Jan 2012, 12:09

general info :?: seems that my computer is starting not to be enuff for Cross, been noticing slight pauses in gui,,with old set up.starting using the U-Mix Control Pro and now the slight pauses in the gui have become more noticable and also sound stoppage, ,noted that my system is not optimized ,nor is any of background services turned off, there is no wifi, nor webcams ,nor is it dedicated to Cross only.
first info needed is the program game booster , what are some of the details on how it functions and the usability going back and fourth, from using Cross and going back to normal comp use
sitting at the fork in the road to setting up a lap top just for Cross,or revitilizing the comp, to be able to run Cross especialy since the update and improvements are still coming, opions are welcome

I used to use the Game Booster when I had Vista as my OS. I used it for around about a year before I changed to W7.

What the program actually does, (in a couple of clicks) is to temperory turn off/disables services you don't actually need whilst playing games (in our case DJ'ing). If I remember rightly I think it turned off/disabled about 25 services in Vista (Vista is a very bloated OS).

Once you have finished with the program (and in a couple of clicks) it turns on/re-able all the services. So you don't have to worry about anything.

I found it helped (not hugely) and thought of it as only a temperory fix.

Give it a try mate

http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

The best thing I found was to turn off the Wifi and my laptop Webcam. In my case I have disabled both devices. These 2 devices have been proven to cause audio problems and glitches. So I would recommend starting there.

Here's another thing to look at. Have you thought about changing your OS to Windows 7. Looking at your systems specs I believe a OEM copy of Windows 7 would run great on your setup. I found installing Windows 7 and my gig'ing laptop and getting rid of Vista was the best thing I ever did. You now can get a OEM copy of Windows 7 quite cheap.

I hope that helps you out a tad, mate ;)

  play with U-Mix while internet now, started the process with figuring what going on(by the way, running with little sound stops now, getting acceptable) :frown: catalouge info
computer on/background services running---ram 55%/cpu 5-10%
comp on/b g s Cross on old set up-asio4all ram 61%/cpu10-20%
comp on/b g s Cross U-Mix Control Pro ram 61 %/cpu 10-20%
comp on/b g s c u m c p, shifted highpwr set ram62%/cpu10-20
c o/b g s /c u m c p & internet on h p set ram64%/cpw 10-20%
c o/ b g s/c u m c p/internet/ h p /anylizing track ram64/cpu 100
catch was set at 25% moved up to 50%,,
think by conversation with compt savy freind that the ram usage is high/will look into this aspect,,will down load game booter and see the difference,,,have my logiteck lcd monitor dedicated to ram/cpu usage to see if /what going on when the sound stops,,,stops are happening less freaquent,,will get it resolved

If you have the possibility you should think of getting Windows 7! My old notebook was delivered with Vista on it, I have played with Cross and Vista first, encountered terrible problems (comparable to yours) and after installing Windows 7 the RAM usage and CPU power went down while playing around with Cross. I know that you use Vista since a long time and never had issues, till now. As I have said: if you have the possibility think about getting Win 7, you won't regret - promised!
Viele Grüße,
Cheers,
A plus,
Steve

I actually tried Gamebooster on Win7.

Not so many noticable changes.

But GameBooster might interfere with asio drivers if you don't run Gamebooster properly. But it is an easy fix.

But I got a useful tip to improve performance besides GameBooster. It does not have side effects.

Open up start menu. type msconfig to the searchbar on the buttom.
Press enter, it opens up the MsConfig application.
- Select the Startup tab
- There click on Special settings
- On the upper left there will be "Number of CPU-s"
- Check the square, and selec the maxumim number from the dropdown list (that represents the number of CPU cores in you computer, normally it is 2.)
- Click OK, and reboot.

This means that the two CPU cores have more ballanced loads, so they support each other all the time, not only when the fist core is runing full.

Faster reboot, smoother performance :)

I warn everyone not to do that, most new intel processors (icores especially) will make trouble as Windows does not see a difference to the virtual cores, worst case scenario so far happening was, that Windows only could use 1 core instead of 4.

This feature is (as far as I undestand it) intended for CPUs not for Cores.

You have been warned! :!:

This acually work fine on older PC-s, that don't have experience in iX numbered CPU-s.
But as Daniel described, it would work fine on his config :)

Mine work awsomely fine, and I got an Intel Core 2 Duo T2130.
