Definitely not in Kansas anymore...

Greetings all!
I'm V.
I feel a bit lost here...
I am not a DJ.
I am a dinosaur programmer, years away from my COBOL and FORTRAN home,(when I coded for mainframes which filled half-a-room, and probably had less memory than the average smart-phone ;) ).
Now I dabble in HTML and related languages, helping friends set up and maintain their own websites.
But I am waaaay out of my depth here!
My dance-class DJ friend has been trying to find a replacement for her MixMeister Express software. (she was not aware when she bought it that it would not allow her to do the really basic tasks that she wanted - I am here in a well-intentioned effort to help her avoid wasting more of her hard-earned cash!)
So here I am, without the right knowledge or vocabulary for either DJ'ing or laptops.
All I can say is, I hope you guys are friendly and tolerant! :D
Cheers - V.

 didnt follow the first part, but welcome to mixvibes   as far as you and your friend is concerned have her try out the demo avaible of the different software :!: that will give her the general idea of whats avaible,  they have limitations,of course  my recommendation if she wants to get something worth while to get the U-Mix Control Pro.there is a special that gives you the full version of Cross (i think just for the summer) but that gives you full oppunity to go which ever way you want,  it come with a built in sc and eliminates the need for a multi channel sc, or a second sc to monitor with   any other info nessary should be avaible on the fourm in the proper topic post  welcome again

Hi Daniel!
Wow - quick reply.
Thanks for saying hello here.
I posted more info about what Coralie needs in DJ software in the 'Tips and Tricks' forum. (erm - I think that is where I put it...)
I will take your advice about trying at least the next level up in the MixVibes free demos.
Trouble is, the restrictions they sometimes place on the demo versions can make it hard to know exactly what the live versions can do.
Plus Coralie is a technophobe, and too many features put her off.

But I noticed that you have a lot of flexibility in what is displayed, and how large, and where....nice!
I can hide any stuff she doesn't need ;)
It is 2a.m. here in England, so I will say good-night, and thanks.
See you on the forum!
V.
