If you don't pay for your music and play on net radio or for a group of any size in a public forum (park, club, arena, venue) you can get fined pretty big for it.

When you buy the music you buy a part of the right to play it in public places to an extent.

I am not sure if this is true for everywhere in the world. In germany fr example you buy a track and you do not have automatically the right to play this one! It is only for private use! The club or the promoter hsa to pay a fee to an organisation that cares about all the music that is sold. I guess this is the way it works in a lot of countries.

I guess so to...
In fact in Europe the major companies try to get more royalties from public appearances, radio, shops, bars & of course disco. If you look to an old lp it's written in the middle "all right reserved... forbitten on public appearance & so on.
We try to built a new world & many protect an old one... C'est la vie.

Sorry but this quote is not correct. You are meant to obtain 'permission' to play in a public place, or the venue you perform at STILL has to pay 'royalties', as do ALL radio stations, or broadcast means ect.

Oh this is not your part! The radio station itself has to pay that fee. I am part of a canadian radio station. The owner told me that there is no fee comparable to the european, there is a fee that you can pay if you like. This is what he does.

Greetings,

Steve
