If you're happy with your Dell, and have had 5 years use, I'd say you've done well with that brand so far. Dell always seem to be good value for money. Personally, I'd look for an i5/i7 processor, Radeon/Nvidia graphics, and the largest RAM/HD capacity for the money. Just checked your location - US, so $600 should get you at least a nice i5 laptop - an i7 may be a little harder to find within your price range. Happy Shopping, and best of luck.

Good choice - especially the Windows 7

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/th ... ries/e431/I got the previous gen model w/out OS for 400$ and put in a 256GB Samsung 840Pro SSD. runs absolutley flawless with Win8. No Offense to Kev, but once you tried Win8 and don't let yourself fall for the "there's no start-button hate" you won't go back to Win7. The Start-page itslef is so much more convinient, you can simply type what you serach for and it'll be there. The Win8 search-functions is over the top! Plus it really needs less ressources.

Point taken Hannes I've had very little experience with Win 8, but I did find it a little confusing. I will admit that it runs really fast and looks nice, but I couldn't find anything! I guess I'm too used to that 'Start Menu'
