Mixing in a club - Question (urgent)

Postby indmix on 01 May 2011, 17:02

I've got my first live mix in a club within 20 days,
but i'm wondering, how long do you usually mix in a club and how many songs do you play in that time?
And also, how much do you ask for that (money) ?
I want to start preparing my mix asap but i need answers to these question before i begin so please answer asap
Thanks

Hi, it depends what type of DJ you are going to be, will you be the warm up DJ, are you going to play the whole night, for how long are you going to play...?

I will be one of the DJ's, not the first one, maybe somewhere 3rd, it's not yet sure.
Would 30 min be fine? Because there are going to be quite a number of DJ's coming.

why dont u discuss this with the promoter who booked u to perform?

or simply divide the length of the party (minutes) with the # of djs playing and u will get the exact time period u have to play :D

btw what do u have to prepare with the mix?

  first bit of info is to practice what you want to play,,practice your skills because to many variables especialy if the songs you plan to play get played before you get to put your spin on them   not to scare or worry you   music flows from the heart :!: ,by practising you will be ready for what ever the mood of the croud is, especially after playing behind someone  confidences is built by accomplishment(practice), my advice is to set up various playlist as a core with the ability to change to match the needs of the crowd and all the variables :!: most of all have fun and enjoy your self, people react off the engery you put into your music, dont worry all set are not perfect but if you enjoy and put the effort in it ,it will turn out all right   let us know how it goes and keep making the music

Some advice, you don't want to make your playlist to structured, the crowd might not like your music selection so your might have to change the style. Always read your crowd ;)

I always know what my first 2 or 3 tracks I will play, and have some idea of my track selection after that, but it all depends the crowd and whether they up for it or not.

Thanks to everyone for the replies
I'll try to give myself a little more freedom then and just pick some songs that i could mix depending on the mood of the people..I mainly picked remixes of famous, commercial songs because that's usually what the people here like and i'll add some classic house and electro tracks..I'll keep practicing on my transitions so i can do it smoothly on the moment itself without preparing too much and i'll surely let you know afterwards how it went

First of all there is no Line that you can follow in point of DJing and playing Music. To Djing is that you fill find your own personally in Point of Style, Technic, and your personality to your Fans and your guests in the Club. In Point that you have chances and Time to see how the Party Crowed will follow you as the DJ in the Club. Is a kind of learning and flexibility. You have to see what happens on the dance floor and what kind of guests you have in a club. It is easy to play in a big Club with thousand of people, when they dance to the same Music Style to get them in party level. But what happens when you will be in a small Club where you have to prepare many Kind of Styles or beats? I seen that so many times when we invited big DJ in our small Club. They have problems to get the Party on a High Level. So even when you practice and you was seen different Clubs and get many Experience. Than you can higher up your money for your DJing job. Because then you have a " NAME " and this is always that what we will say recognition-worth. So try it out Play your style don't sell you personality. Get your own and don't copy be your self and than you will have the Chance to grow big.
