Cross + Control Pro + Vinyl + Timecodes

Postby deanobirko on 25 Jul 2013, 11:30

Hi

I just sold my main mixer and external soundcard and got the Control Pro 2 to use as an all in one and save me space on my mixing desk.

Couple of questions re Vinyl and Scratching.

I tend to mostly mix and scratch with Vinyl and play perhaps 30% of my set with harder to find Digital tracks.

Now, I cant get onto Cross right now as im in work. Here are my questions:

- How easy is it to switch between Digital, Timecodes and Real Vinyl seamlessly, without affecting my mix?
- Can I set up two decks via controller and two decks using timecode?
- Is the crossfader responsive enough for some scratching (Not Q-Bert level trauma, but some basic cutting, chopping and scribbles). I will be scratching using vinyl and timecodes, not the jogwheels.

Ive used Cross 1.5 and like it but im not too familiar with 2.5 yet. If someone who uses the setup like this could shed some light on my questions, I would appreciate it.

I don't use your setup, but as I understand it, switching between timecode and real vinyl is as easy as pushing a button to go from internal to line in. Your top 2 decks can be used for timecode and vinyl, and the bottom 2 decks can be used for digital, and it can all be mapped to controllers, or only what you need to controllers. I don't know about the crossfader sensitivity, but since you are working with a MIDI controller, it would be up to the response of the controller and the fader included in it that would be the issue. As far as I know for simple cuts and not volume accuracy, the MIDI crossfader should do just fine. I base this on the fact that I've seen a 4 time DMC champ scratch using a MIDI controller without a hitch.

Thanks for the reply, I wasnt aware I could use the top two decks for timecodes and the bottom for digital.

How does one set up the mixer for four decks? My controller only affects decks 1 and 2..

 not shure either ,,but might have something to do with re mapping the controller to control the c/d decks ,, there is a MIDI napping utlity and also a Cross map app ,, get info and assistance will be there

its far beyound my reach to help you re map the U-Mix Control Pro two ,,but have looked at MIDI tab in 2.5 and there is a section for editing and remapping the player 3 and 4 ,,
my only thoughts and concerns would be how to use the software Cross fader to transtion between tc vinal and digtal
,kinda think you would be limited to transtioning from deck 1(tc) to deck 4 (digital) and the inverse from deck 2 (tc) to deck 3 (digital)
