'Locking' Tags

Postby KevMaverick on 13 Feb 2012, 22:34

I've just had to rescan my entire collection of music files. :(

I re-imported all my tracks into another program and it scanned them with its own system for the bpms - not very accurately I'm afraid! What makes it worse is the fact that it re-wrote all the existing bpms in the tags.

I've now re-scanned them all with Cross DJ, but would like to protect them against this ever happening again.

I know the easy answer is to stop using the other program, but I can't it's essential! I'd just like to force it to use the existing bpms in the mp3s, presuming that I can lock the tags first.

Would write protecting the actual mp3 files work, or would that cause problems with Cross DJ?

Hey,

you could check if the other program has an option to disable writing tags?

Write protecting all the files could cause problems maybe but it could also work well. I would test it with some files but I'm not shure if it will take effect to set a file protected.
(like I run my Cross DJ as Administrator and then it has other rights to files than running at normal permissions.)

What is the other program? than I could check the internet about editing tags.

Thanks
Christian

Two other programs actually. One is Mixmeister, the other is Virtual DJ which I use at one of the clubs I work at.

I think Mixmeister is fixed. I've just found a setting on there that disables writing information to the files.

With Virtual DJ I can see it scanning each file when I drag it into the play window, and the bpm always changes! So annoying!

Hey,

i have no Virtual DJ but to my knowlege there was an option to disable editing tags in a earlier version. Would check the preferences if there is an option to change it.

What will work is to disable PBM calculation (I know that there is a option) and you can set the PBM with Cross DJ and Virtual DJ will use the information from the file tag but I have no information about how good than the Autosync function and so on will work.

regards
Christian

Thanks for that info. I'll check out that function in Virtual DJ when I go to the club tomorrow.

Thanks.
