Talk about gear, music, shows or anything you'd like.

Hey all!
Life is bad, the devil is a squirrel and the bad guys win. These are facts! I am an optimist and always see the good in people. I keep the proprieties and buy my music, movies and stuff like that. In germany there is a huge mp3 online shop provided by germany's leading internet provider and my former company. In this mp3 shop I bought some pop remixes like James Holden's remix of Madonna - Get Together or Sasha's famous remix of Faithless - Insomnia. It is a while back - I guess it was in 2005/2006 - and I only got the tracks on a CD I was burning in these years. Now I wanted to rip the tracks because in 2005 I never thought about data loss on CDs - my fault, indeed! Now this CD can not be ripped nor can I play it. So I logged into my account and wanted to redownload my purchased (!) tracks. In the "my download" section I could not find it because the history just reaches till 2007. So I wrote a message to the support and those answered the following: "Dear Steve, due to our general business terms we just have to store your purchases for three years. This is our duty and this is what we did". So my bought (!) tracks are gone...dust in the wind! If you play the game you get punished more and more. So the people from the whole music industry are wondering why users steal music? I will never again buy tracks at this shop and I will copy all of my bought tracks (~2500) to three different harddisks just to be sure that I can play it in some years.
So guys, what I wanted to tell you is that you have to be aware that this might happen to you too! Make a lot of backups and read the general business terms before you enter a shop. I have learned my lesson again.
Greetings,
Steve

but since you have legally purchased the tracks originally, aren't you entitled to download the same tracks from anywhere else?
I mean at this point it doesn't matter where you get your tracks from, does it?
talking of backup I got a synology NAS with 2x1Tb drives and it's awesome! file server, media server, backup, web server it's fantastic

Steve man, I know how you fill! I recently bought Magic the Gathering cards from a US supplier and paid about 60$ and 3$ plus for insurance, in case of package loss. Now, the package is lost and the guys from the company dont wanna pay me back eventhough I paid 3$ plus for insurence for every card that I bought. So you can imagine how I feel now man! The whole world sucks!

I guess it is not that easy. I bought it at a specific shop and no other shop would offer me a download when I show my invoice. If anyone in here knows a shop that does you can post a link, I have all the invoice-mails saved on my harddisk. you have the invoice showing you bought the track. well F*ck the store that has a sh*tty customer policy, you can go get the track on the net in 5 minutes probably. it won't matter if you ever get controlled.
I know this is polemic subject if not forbidden but in this case, I'm allowing myself to mention it. so yea no controversy here, I'm trying to help Steve although I understand it is borderline.
